Alabamans are in favor of I-10 truck-only toll bridge, poll says

    It’ll never stop.
These new laws are just against the small companies, they won’t pass the expenses on the rate, or will they?
We all know the big companies will, so it affects the people in the long run, but no one in the poll is smart enough to realize.

I’d drive either 90, or up to 31 across bay minette vs paying for a federally funded bridge that our tax paying money built, then pay to drive it

    Well duh.

removing trucks from any road will improve safety and congestion.

and any poll can be worded to get any response you want .
Getting the bridge built is a totally different story.
    It likely Won’t ever happen.
There’s probabaly some endangered shrimp or something that could have their habitat damaged by the bridge

If anyone was ACTUALLY interested in releiving congestion, theyd ramp up or build public rail transportation.

But thats a silly idea that might actually meet the goals they stated they want to hit, so itll never happen

Rail is pretty inefficient except in the most congested areas. But then the folks in that city don’t want to
Pay for it so they rope outlying counties to contribute. Then to get corporate support in the voting they force the rails to take weird bends, etc. Then to justify the expense they will remove lots of successful bus express routes.

Exactly what happened here in Portland. $10 Billion for 20 miles of initial rail. We had something like 35,000 cars commuting into the city every day (at the time the rail was built). With a 25 minute safety gap between trains and four cars per train, even if the cars were packed full, which they only were for about two trains, the most the rail could transport in the commute hours was like 300 per train every 15 minutes or 2,400 absolutely maxed for the two hour commute period. In reality they average about half full across that period so maybe 1,500 actual commuters per day. The east side of town would be about the same.

So for $10B they moved less than 10% of commuters off the road. Of course many of those riding the rail used to ride the express buses into town. So actually change from private vehicles to
Public rail was likely under 5%. Local analysts figured for the same construction cost they could have bought twice as many new luxury buses, and paid the drivers and operating expenses for the next 20 years.

Over time the city got the light rail to eliminate ride fees within the city so only county riders pay a fare. It is lightly patrolled so 1/3 of the riders do not pay the fare due. Also you get to enjoy teens yelling obscenities at each other and homeless sleeping on seats smelling of urine.
Rail in Europe is not light rail, it is full gauge and used to connect towns. Buses are used to get around inside of towns or to smaller villages. This seems to be a practical model. For some reason our US politicians are enamored of light rail between cities and within cities. It is stupid because it is expensive and can’t relocate as business sectors change like buses easily can adapt.

Public rail is a boondoggle construction project that does very little to actually reduce private vehicle commuters. Buses are much more flexible in times and routes.
