DO NOT Blindly follow your GPS

How do you like those GPS recommendations to make a turn around inside a narrow residential block? Obviously, a tractor-trailer has no business going in there... but there goes that wonderful lady voice, "make a left here, then make another left, then another left, then make a right.

You look in there, it's a residential road, cars parallel parked on both sides, and tree branches low enough you might question its height.

Well, the problem with your theory of thinking is that is most drivers I help out are hell-bent on following their GPS and have no common sense along with the ones programming the GPS's!! Not sure if that's how they're training today's drivers or what, but I constantly see drivers disregarding "No Truck" signs here in my neighborhood on a daily basis.

First Quality Tissues in Lock Haven, Pa moved their entrance almost 2 years ago to the other side of town, but for some reason, it seems the BOL's are still showing the old address, but they installed plenty of signs telling them exactly how to get there, yet almost 95% of the drivers I stop and help will keep saying "Well my GPS said to go this way" and even though I tell them exactly how to get there, they'll still point to their GPS and I literally have to argue with them to follow the signs! When they get into town, they'll blow right by signs telling them which way to go and even a arrow, but they'll still end up going into the old entrance. Once they get there, they have a big sign in there telling them the new address to enter into their GPS, real simple I thought, but nope, when they come back out, there's 2 streets (E. Park St & S Jones St) that come to a fork at the gate, there's 2 signs that state to stay right, but nope, some of them still go left right by my house!!

I have been emailing companies that seem to have multiple drivers going down the next street west of me where it has 2 intersections that have "No Truck" signs and they'll still blow right by them, so they end up going to the end of the street to a T, and then they get stuck because the road is just an alley and too narrow to turn left onto and then they'll call the police to assist them to back up. And the one's that make the left come to another T and make a right taking out the stop sign and overhead wires.

Just a #### shame a lot of today's newer drivers don't have any common sense

 

It is all over. I run a few rural roads between numbered highways in eastern PA and this one spot...The farmer's team could not directly pull a loaded wagon directly up from a stream crossing but they could pull it around a corner up that same steep slope makint these neat corkscrew two lanes that are a blast to drive in a sports car or motorcycle. Big rigs can't make it.

Past three trips to the cabin I have had two trips where I had to back up and take another side road around the truck that tried to climb and turn until the retracted landing gear stuck fast...first time the cop had just arrived. this past friday there were two of those big 'rotator' wreckers [a good $1500.00 an hour each] deciding how to extract THIS one.....

You come down hill thru a set of S turns, cross the creek and immediately climb back up while making a good 175 to 185 degree turn untill it bellies out.

Stay in numbered highways and off the back farm roads; you are driving the wrong kind of tractor. Might look shorter on your GPS but it isn't.

 

He should have taken that left turn in Albuquerque.

 

I use iOS maps 98% of the time….for turn by turn.
Hammer gps and inRoute for the rest of it.

a lot of this comes down to panicking.
You can get lost (I’ve done it) and even be on restricted routes, the main thing is know your limit and know when to call for help lol
