We (upsf) have a "dock-to-driver" program for dock workers. After the transition, i think it will remain in place.
Our dock workers only make .50 cents less than drivers, so there's really no need to become a driver unless that's what you really want and plus you can take the license and drive anywhere.
i think the best thing for you may to get a local food delivery gig or perhaps something like amazon; This will get you in the swing of driving and working locally. It will help you get a feel for trucking in one way.
It's good to ask a lot of questions----i do the same and ask everyone for numbers which are important.
But TOO MUCH thinking and not enough doing is not optimal; You can do, get experience, and think and the same time.

This man knew what the hell he was talking about.
Too much talking, not enough doing. You're a driver , NOT a politician. Start acting like a driver.
