Doesn't leaking pan gasket fall into the emergency type repair?

    True.
But if you pay a mechanic to do all the repairs. Doesn't really matter where it's done. Unless you have a trusted local mechanic.

You'll need to sue them in order to get your money back and damages covered. Even when you get a tire changed they make you initial a form stating that you understand that the lugs need to be check within X number of miles or any warranties are void. So they didn't feel it was necessary with missing bolts on an oil pan? That argument doesn't fly. File a small claim, it won't cost you much and you're guaranteed to win.

I refuse to use TA/Petro for any repairs other than an emergency tire repair. I had a light out on my trailer last year and they started cutting and splicing wires, cost me $1,600 after their screw up for a new wiring harness. Had a front end alignment done another time and they messed it up so bad, it ruined 2 new tires and they wouldn't do anything about it. Never again.

Just can’t let these idiots touch your Truck. Once in a while, I’ll see an experienced Mechanic. For the most part, recent Mechanics School graduates at best, using you’re Truck as on the job training.

It sounds like they gave you the shaft! I would contact corporate, and or the regional manager. They should have offered to install new bolts.
In the future, TA and Petro tech's, receive basic training. You can get a job there with little or no experience. You have to check everything they do!! I have gotten oil changes at a TA, but I stand there and watch them. And they always over tighten the filters.

My question is were the bolts just missing?
If so go to the bolt bin grab two and install them and move on.
With that being said my instincts from also being in the repair business for more than thirty years tells me most likely the mechanic ran All the the bolts in with an air gun breaking two of them off.
Remember the goal was to repair a leaking oil pan gasket.
Installing an oil pan with two missing bolts is not going to accomplish that.
So at the end of the day if what the mechanic said was true what was the point of the whole exercise?

TA Paulsboro has reimbursed me for my new oil change as well as for the tow in South Hill, VA plus a $1000 in damages. I'm happy with the compensation and am glad this ordeal has been resolved. It was a great lesson learned.

has basic truck stop preventative maintenance working over the road always been a game of russian roulette?? and now it's getting to where they won't let you watch...:biggrin_25513: no way no how. i guess if it's your only option you shoulder the risk, but otherwise if you don't absolutely have to, even letting chain shops touch the thing is inviting catastrophe
