Just got back an email with answers to all the question i came up with over the past week after looking over the lease myself.
One question i asked was about fuel tax being charged. Didn't quite understand that. But i was told,
isnt that double taxation? if i were to buy a case of cigarettes from some state with super low tobacco tax, and take it to a state (in my travels, not to import) with super high taxes, and smoke some there...do i really have to come up with the tax to pay the state even though i did not buy my cigarettes in said state?? Basicly if i bought fuel in one state, and had a 1000 mile load, and 800 of those miles went thru a state with super high fuel tax, swift would tax me for the fuel i burned in that state, even though i paid the tax for said fuel in the state it was purchased in.
i asked about the difference in letters sent to me. one said no truck payment for 8 weeks, and no down payment, but the lease said that both the truck payment and down payment were defferred. i was answered with,
talk about a tiny suprise. I had mentioned the difference in the two items sent to me, and that if a driver was going to lease a $100k truck, and end up paying $160k for it, i would think Swift would throw in the $2500 down payment for free....but yet they're going to charge you for taking the deal and defer the payments. go figure.
and when asked about if swift would just sell me the truck....the response was
so.....i have come to the conclusion, that even when leaning toward leasing a truck, they STILL couldnt be upfront with me...and it took a couple days of b!tchin' to even get an email with the answers i wanted....i wont be leasing after all.
i will be looking for local work in the indianapolis area, and if i cant find that, getting the F out of this industry. i'd find more help, respect and courtsey being a dishwasher in a fancy country club than i find in this industry.
thank you to all who actually contributed, as for the rest of you..... <flipping you the bird>

It is fine if you want to crash and burn, but you asked for help. You got it, but your not mature enough to listen. This is a big part of the downfall in trucking. Guys like you. Thanks for screwing it up for the other newbies that will not get good info.outerspacehillbilly and REDD Thank this. -

Fuel tax is also another thing you should learn about before you make any drastic moves. Your IFTA sticker is your fuel tax decal.... You have to report to them every quarter how much fuel you purchased, where you purchased it, & how many miles you drove in each state for the previous quarter.
You may over pay in Georgia on fuel tax & under pay in Alabama & Texas. What you over paid in Georgia will be transferred to the other 2 states. And the what balance is left will be returned to you... If you under paid..... Be digging in your pockets for more money to pay.

And as for the other post.... I was going to give you a number to a banker that isn't far from Atlanta that also finances trucks.... He is easy to work with & can work some magic. But you screwed that up. But if you seriously want to buy my truck... I'd sell it to ya! It's got Chrome & Chicken Lights & Loud Exhaust & Goes Faster Then 62.... But I'd still almost bet you'd speed in the parking lot! -
outerspacehillbilly and otherhalftw Thank this. -
whats funny, is that you just admited by responding to that post that you really didnt help any. nice job, hero -
the arrogance of the vet drivers thinkin' they can do no wrong is what screws it up. If you filter out all the "help" that wasnt really that helpful, and stack up the posts that really helped, there is plenty of good information off this thread.
