Is there a reason you are do tied to this one particular customer? I get you dont want to run the spot market because of the unpredictability. But why not look for another steady run? Contract rates are up aswell

Once they are not satisfied with the rates from a specific broker or shipper, they move on and try to find money elsewhere. -
That customer was the reason I left my old job and got my authority. I looked before I opened my own authority to make sure there is going to be some kind of security blanket. If I wouldn't have that customer, I would most likely fall right after I started it off with total shutdowns last year.
While many tell me to kind of risk it now everything and leave and run for higher rates in the meantime, I am hesitant since I don't want the market to have a total control of me. I risked a lot last year. -
What total shutdowns? Most everyone kept on trucking and making money.

How about this. Tell him you need a rate increase. What’s he gonna do? Go find someone else? He will get completely gob smacked in the forehead when he sees how high rates are. And make it 5% higher then the original rate. I would say 10 but I know you won’t do that so go for 5 where you’ll say it with more confidence. Take a DAT or better yet freight waves rate chart with you to show what rates have done.

Mostly spot market following tends and using my intuition to position myself. Had one customer paying near $4 a mile and $3 mile depending drop-off , 4 loads a month around 1000 miles each trip . Mixed in with good spot market and pre determined lanes and its been a easy run other than some breakdowns and catching Covid , I'm definitely getting lazy and finding myself staying home more often . -
That the difficult part...staying focused, refrain from relaxing yet. It's been 9 busy months and April has already started good. Such a nice Spring weather in Chicago today and I am in the truck again.
I hope when the rates tank, the weather will be just as good. As a matter of fact, I've been asking lately, when the heck will they stop paying as good...so I can find time to do some home maintenance? -
Heavy Weight Bad!
Usually my loads are 50-52k
Don’t be cuttin’ in on my heavy loads!!
