Hahaha I got a good laugh off of that one. I got a petro pass right around the corner of my work and go there to clean my windows in the morning and always see stuff like this. As an hourly driver I don't care. But I can't imagine how pissed off I'd be to be that CPM guy blocked in by a guy like that.

The other day I saw a guy just park his truck in front of like 8 trucks blocking them into their truck stop spots. These people just don't give a ####.

Most carriers who run the us pre employment drug screen. Your in the pool to be called for fandoms when your a cross border driver.

I would tell you to stay local and hourly. I run out of Niagara Falls NY and go to GTA everyday. I make a ton of OT with all the traffic and border hang ups. With vaccines getting ready to be widely available soon hold on and everything will be busy again.

I'd recommend obtaining a Unizonied hourly paid job if you like the job and money factor. Running for the mile is good but from what I've seen on my short time of running Regional Highway from Toronto to Montreal as of late are the accidents. The Newby truck drivers causing downtime especially by the one pushing the clock for more miles falling asleep behind the wheel crossing lanes and medians multiple times. Plus the OnRoutes are a disaster from trying to find drivers who block you in 3 deep showing no consideration for other drivers. Finding Truck Stop parking after midnight on Provincial highways seem to be the most difficult challenge now a days oppose to 20 years. For me hourly is worth it because I'm paid for delays plus we're in day cabs so we stay in a Hilton, Marriott (5 star hotel) etc. Racing to a bottom of the barrel end job is easily obtained but on the other end finding a job that considers your 'Time Spent' in a life as a Trucker is something most companies don't respect. Tons of companies are getting desperate for drivers including the ones that wear uniforms.

Problem with most local jobs here in Ontario is they don't pay overtime until 60 hours. My carrier won't even let you work more than 60 hours if you wanted to. I've only seen two companies that pay overtime after 44 hours and thats Cascades and ABF. I applied to Cascades but they arnt hiring anymore and ABF has the worst trucks (at least for local drivers) I've ever seen out of any carrier. Doesn't even look like they have anything made within the last 15 years. Don't want that target on my back.

I used to do Ottawa switches with my first carrier so I know what you mean with the accidents, but I worked nights so it was a lot better and the truck stops had lots of room by morning when everyone got moving again.

If I could find a unionized hourly job I'd do it but I can never seem to find anything. Other than the ocasional switch with my first carrier my work has been extremely stressful. 5 minutes there 10 minutes there. I average around 12-15 stops and never really get to do any driving. If I could find a job that was all switches or larger LTL loads I'd take it but when I look online it's either LTL work like I'm doing or long haul.

Hourly pay just doesn't seem to be there. In fact I've noticed carriers dropping their rates since covid started. Trimac used to pay $27 local now down to 22. Labatt used to start at $27.50 down to $26.

I don't have a wife or kids so I have nothing holding me back here. Don't mind being away from home if I can actually make more money. Most of the guys I work with who came from long haul said they used to make around 2k a week.

99% of Unionized Driving job do work on tier systems these days which none start you at the top but rather one or two year to top wage so you have to put in the time. Most average over $28/hr some even up to $33/hr including their Regional Switches which pay Night Premium. A lot of the Bigger Courier Carrier Companies have larger contracts too guaranteeing the work load and pay O/T after 44/45hrs. One Example: P&D Driver Jobs

Other ones like Pepsi pay well AZ Driver - $32/hr At PepsiCo | Peersight

Ups, Purolator, DHL, YRC Freight etc.

The Jobs are there if you seriously put the effort to look. Full-Time Driver - Brampton Jobs

I came off an OTR job about three weeks ago. I couldn't take the looking for a parking spot or 9th inline for a shower anymore.
Now I get paid for every minute I work from the time I start putting my boots on until I take them off and Overtime after 44.
Sitting in traffic can be ruff :D IMG_20210324_084816_01.jpg
