I was wondering if I can get cheaper insurance (not for hire/Personal use) type. I am still rebuilding my Freightliner, but I need to test drive it from time to time.
I want also to be able to drive it when I move, with my personal belongings in the trailer.
Is anybody familiar with these types of insurance I can get?
Insurance for personal use while working on the truck?

Bobtail/non trucking. Cheap.

You can get a "trip" policy from most truck underwriting carriers. 3-5 days to complete XX mile trip.
Usually pretty cheap.jamespmack Thanks this. -

Not so sure about the scales.......if not hauling for hire probably not.

brian991219 Thanks this.

Some states are all vehicles over x weight, some are cmv specific.
Check the requirements of the states you will be driving through.brian991219 Thanks this. -
Either way, if I have to enter a scale, I don't think I will be overweight since I am hauling my own household.
I am sure I will be well below 26000 lbs.
I will not have documentation for the load since it is my own junk. I will be going from Missouri to Florida.
Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia then finally Florida. -

As for paperwork on the load, be prepared to justify it is your own stuff if stopped and questioned.
Insurance is going to be tough. "Bobtail" aka non-trucking liability isn't really applicable here because for that to be binding it almost always must be used in conjunction with a valid lease agreement from a motor carrier. The fine print usually requires this. There are insurance companies that write personal use of former commercial vehicles, think like collectors and such, just not sure who to recommend to you.
