Not sure if I posted this in the correct section, I apologize if so.

Today (just an hour ago) I had to blind side back into a building next to another truck. I was backing just fine, got it in the hole and kind of came real close to the trucks trailer next to mine.

I corrected and moved forward, as soon as I did that the trucker next to me got out of his truck to inspect his trailer. I stopped my truck and got out as well, to see if I may or may not have touched his trailer. We found a scrape on it about a foot long, but I know for a fact I didn't do that.. the back of my trailer didn't line up anywhere close to where the scrape was.

He simply asked for my ID and took a picture of it. I'm still a rookie and I allowed him to do so. I was kind of panicking and really didn't want my safety dept getting a phone call over this BS. He said he wasn't going to report me or call anyone and to just let it go, nothing to worry about. He said he wasn't even sure if the scrape was there before or not. He said he wanted a photo of my license JUST IN CASE I make a claim against him?

I should have gotten his information, but I didn't.

How can this backfire against me if he pulls something later on? Not sure what he could do. Nothing was written down, just a photo of my license and he was done and left the dock loaded within 5 mins later.

Just shows he damaged the trailer and has you as a backup if his company sees the damage.
Too late now, but you should have never let him see your license. He has no authority to ask for or see your license.
He's a poor liar; he damaged his own trailer and now has you to put the blame on.

It could backfire many ways. Failure to report an accident, no matter how minor, is a big No-No to many safety dorks. I would not have let him take a pic of my license. Could have exchanged info and taken LOTS of pics of both units and situation.

One thing folks might look for to corroborate his story is damage on your trailer which lines up with the damage on his.

once you gave him your info, you should have got his.
you should have made a report cause he will. some companies,if not most, will terminate a driver if driver didn't report an accident.

A lesson learned don't give out any information if you have not caused any damage. Definitely not with those " I think or you may have done this" Your response is keeping on thinking by I got to run along now.

Do not ever give your license to anyone but the cops in any situation, if someone wants it and demands it, call the cops.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that he now has your personal information.

If there was no evidence of matching damage on your unit I'd have told him to get lost.
