To make a long story short, you should have told him to %$# himself or call the cops. Giving him your info was very, very not smart.

Twice over the years I had somebody ask for my info and called the law when
I refused. In both cases the officer came out.....listened to my side of the story.
No tickets, no problem. I will not give my info to anybody that doesn't have
authority to ask for it.

 

I have NEVER given any P.I.I. (personal Identifying Info) to anyone who wasn't a City Kitty, County Mounty, Full Grown Bear, State D.M.V. apart from the Company of which I worked.

Slightly similar activity happened to me at a Lowe's Store in Northern South Carolina (off I-77), in 2018 or '19.
I was in a Penske, manual 10-speed, 10 wheel with a 53' Dry Van.
I was docked, 2nd dock from walkway ramp at bldg. 3rd Dock, empty. Been there a little while. Told to get center lane as "some drivers have problems with lane 1".
Road Driver, Kenworth or Pete and 53 dry van attempted a few times to get to dock #1, and like Lowe's and some other Company stores, an "extra storage area" is oftentimes next to Dock Lane if it doesn't just eliminate a Dock Lane.

Well other driver backed into and snagged some roller shelves as well some warehouse shelving parts from the "storage area" and after a few more tries at getting to dock, he got a wee bit whiny as well getting jerky (impatient with himself, nah, never happens to US, sure) with the combo, managed to snag my Buffalo/Elk/Alien/Moose/Big Foot/Bear/Jackalope/Deer Guard and snatched it a bit while breaking the right side (off center) front of support.
Since it was an "accident", my people as well his required we exchange info after I called and a Local City Kitty arrived.
No Fault of mine, as I was Not In Cab, too bad for him.
He was able then to successfully land trailer to dock.

If you know for a fact that you didn’t hit his trailer, why did you panic? You do understand, don’t you, that if this gets reported now, you WILL get fired?

What you should have done as soon as he accused you is start snapping pictures. It’s better to deal with safety then, than to try to hide something and they find out later. Don’t be a victim.

 

I don't agree with all the doomsayers. It may turn out bad. If your worried about it call your safety guy and lay it out for him. If your a rookie and what have you they should understand. Did you take a picture of what he said might be your damage? Always try to document everything, take a lot of pictures. If it's a complicated situation scribe down some notes so you can remember all the nuances.

Def sounds like you should tell your safety guy, just in case.

IMO it'll be alright, especially if it's just a small scratch (even if he does blame you). In the future I wouldn't be handing my license to anyone but LEO or DOT.

 

This is why we pay for insurance.
Exchange insurance info and take a ton of pictures.
Let safety know and let insurance/safety handle it from there.
The important thing is to get it on record via accident report that you took pictures, did not actually make contact with the trailer and are being accused of hitting something you didn't hit.
The most personal information to give out is your name. Along with insurance that's all anyone needs. If they insist on more, contact the cops to let them explain why more is not needed.

 

What is it with people nowadays just giving their personal information to anyone that asks for it? It went from giving it to every African or Indian prince that emailed or texted for a lost fortune. Then everyone sold there identity to use facebook. Then went to someone saying you will get arrested for unpaid credit cards or unpaid taxes. And now scamming truckers. Whats next?
