You can thank the “tree hugging Nazis” at the EPA for that. Go with the Pete/Detroit combo. Series 60 mills are relatively trouble free as long as you maintain them properly.

Well I didnt look at those attachments, but good catch. Definitely a question to be asked to whoever is selling it.

Wouldn't make much of a difference to me, I'd get rid of the egr and run it.

Maybe Im doing it wrong though...but I sure love my 379 and 13spd lol.

Actually once Daimler bought Detroit you couldn’t get them in anything else.

OP....if you don’t mind driving an old truck the 379 will be bulletproof.

I forget exactly, but I think it was 1999, when Daimler bought Detroit. They started charging a premium to other manufacturers beside Freightliner. Few Dealers had them, basically special order for a couple/few years, after that had to buy a Freightliner to get a Detroit. The heads are all the same, the block repair listed must be a typo. I’m guessing it should read 12.7 counterbores cut. I was unable to open any of the links. Some research on the serial/ model number of the block will tell. It’s probably a BK engine. Or has been rebuilt with a BK Kit hopefully. If you have the Mcbee kit# , it can be looked up easily to tell. The older kits with lower compression pistons will have a lot of white smoke when cold, till engine warms up. The other thing you want to see is a new bull gear.

A friend of mine had a 95 short hood, with a Detroit. It was a very nice Truck. Had everything a modern Truck has. Aside from a rattle in the sleeper that could never be found, drove him nuts. Lol. He traded it on a 96 377. That Truck had a 550 Cat,18 spd. And unbelievably got better fuel economy than the Detroit. Must have been the aerodynamics. It was amazing 7.7 consistently hauling heavy.

For sure. Take a bulletproof engine away from Paccar and IH.

I miss spoke, this is the engine

    051P-502-AAC DDC SER 60 ENGINE,430/470HP

    ENGINE S/N 6R0630761

I love 379s for sure just not a fan of short hoods. Also, call me what you will but I like my creature comforts and would have to idle all the time until I could afford an apu . So I'm concerned about that.

No you dont "have to idle". Start thinking about all those $ flying out the stack while idling when its nice enough to put the windows down. Granted a 12.7 has a idle burn rate of like .6 gph, and the one I used to run was a consistent 1/2gal hr. My C15 seems to be just shy of 1gph, so I really limit my idling.

And if you're that worried about it, get a Predator generator and and a small portable ac unit for when it gets really warm. Thats what I have, well dont have the ac unit yet, but it'll be put in, in the next few weeks.

My vote is for the Pete.
Agree on wanting to know when the bull gear was done last.
