You can thank the “tree hugging Nazis” at the EPA for that. Go with the Pete/Detroit combo. Series 60 mills are relatively trouble free as long as you maintain them properly.
Cant decide on pre-emission truck or emission efficient truck.

Wouldn't make much of a difference to me, I'd get rid of the egr and run it.
Maybe Im doing it wrong though...but I sure love my 379 and 13spd lol.77fib77, slow.rider, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
OP....if you don’t mind driving an old truck the 379 will be bulletproof.77fib77, slow.rider, mjd4277 and 3 others Thank this. -

I forget exactly, but I think it was 1999, when Daimler bought Detroit. They started charging a premium to other manufacturers beside Freightliner. Few Dealers had them, basically special order for a couple/few years, after that had to buy a Freightliner to get a Detroit. The heads are all the same, the block repair listed must be a typo. I’m guessing it should read 12.7 counterbores cut. I was unable to open any of the links. Some research on the serial/ model number of the block will tell. It’s probably a BK engine. Or has been rebuilt with a BK Kit hopefully. If you have the Mcbee kit# , it can be looked up easily to tell. The older kits with lower compression pistons will have a lot of white smoke when cold, till engine warms up. The other thing you want to see is a new bull gear.

I love 379s for sure just not a fan of short hoods. Also, call me what you will but I like my creature comforts and would have to idle all the time until I could afford an apu . So I'm concerned about that.Last edited: Apr 7, 2021
singlescrewshaker Thanks this. -
No you dont "have to idle". Start thinking about all those $ flying out the stack while idling when its nice enough to put the windows down. Granted a 12.7 has a idle burn rate of like .6 gph, and the one I used to run was a consistent 1/2gal hr. My C15 seems to be just shy of 1gph, so I really limit my idling.
And if you're that worried about it, get a Predator generator and and a small portable ac unit for when it gets really warm. Thats what I have, well dont have the ac unit yet, but it'll be put in, in the next few weeks.RubyEagle, 77fib77, singlescrewshaker and 1 other person Thank this. -
My vote is for the Pete.
Agree on wanting to know when the bull gear was done last.Geronimo17 and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
