3rd week of Feb to end of March was great on my lanes out of DFW area. It was nice after the winter, I love to work. I thought we were getting an early start. First week of April shows up it’s almost dead as a hammer. Y’all noticing this?

I keep reading articles about car plants having to shut down for weeks due to a shortage of computer chips.

I am also reading that dealer lots have a lot of room for more cars and pickups. Demand is high yet certain models or options are difficult to come by. What do you know about that?

    *************************
    • GM is temporarily idling or extending downtimes at several plants in North America due to an ongoing semiconductor chip shortage impacting the global automotive industry.
    • The temporary plant closures range from a week or two to several additional weeks for plants that have already been idled due to the parts shortage.
    • The company expects the problem will reduce its operating profit by $1.5 billion to $2 billion this year.

Oh wow, that’s good information! I don’t haul new cars, mostly Carmax and what not. New cars aren’t worth the risk for my tiny operation. But it’s all related in the grand scheme of things I’m sure. I’m ready to get back at it. I don’t move cheap cars so I’m back to sitting on the beach for a few weeks I guess. Hopefully end of April will pick up.

    Yep.

    The lots are mostly empty.

Plenty of used though if you want to pay more then new.

I'm trying to buy a pickup and the only one at that time. 900 miles away.

Well. That’s makes sense. Even if used cars are still moving everyone that hauls new is now competing with us for the used. I haven’t moved the truck in a week. Been visiting the kids in Corpus. I’ve seen a lot of empty and half loaded car haulers this last week though.

It’s hurting us when we need to broker a back haul from someone else when we get out of position from normal operating area. BMW doesn’t seem to be having a problem, but I ended up out in Memphis this week and had to deadhead home and then will go up to Greer empty tomorrow. I didn’t do #### for revenue last week.

They've decided to just merely limit the hours to 40 rather then idle the plants.

I don't know how in the world they're going to catch up. Specially with the transition to EV in the process.

I want to get a environmental pig before they become obsolete.

I’ve barely been running. 2 round trips to Tulsa last week. 1 today. And half my load got cancelled so I ended up coming back very light. I just came home. I had to PC 30 minutes to make it but my drop is 20 minutes away in the morning. Why stay out with this doodoo. The I-35 lane south to San Antonio is down to junk and it’s below .50 a car. Nah. Frustrating but hey I have money in savings. Fortunately I run lean except maintenance costs and those are down from not running as much.
