I guess a ban on Chinese commercial tires during Clinton's administration before Chinese entrance into WTO was for a reason - safety!

These the tires? If so, closed shoulders really suck in snow. Probably a hard compound for better wear and fuel economy, but that harder rubber gets even worse in the cold.

And you're right about traction control, it basically just limits power.

Could very well be tires. But I also noticed that he didn't engage his power divider until he was back at the bottom. If I start spinning I back off to stop the spinning, engage the power divider and downshift to get the rpms up and away from the higher torque of lower rpms. Though, as I have never drivers a modern autoshift, maybe I'm full of it.
As far as the traction control thing, theoretically it uses the abs system to stop the spinning wheels and transfer the power to the other side so you stay moving. Theoretically.

In my experience, auto-shift transmission works exactly as manual one if I switch it to manual mode and shift it with my fingers.

According to checktire.com 3420 stands for the 34th week of 2020, which is 2020-08-17. Your tire is 7 months 24 days old; so they are fairly new. Unless the manufacturer future dates them to accommodate for shipping delay, it must be the stuff that they are made of and the pattern that is causing the slippage.

I have heard that some companies disable the manual feature on autos. Also, with the lack of training today, many newer drivers would not know to downshift when the wheels start spinning to get out of the higher torque band.

I drive my own ungoverned and unrestricted rig; and you are right, without manual mode, those trucks are garbage in slippery conditions.

95% sure if it has ECAS, it's a 6x2. And if it's not working, it's not dumping the air in the dead axle to put weight on the drive axle. So being a 6x2, ECAS not working, and crappy drive tires, itll all accumulate into crap traction.
