My latest try at trucking gave me a Fitzgerald Glider long nose Peterbilt with a 13 spd. Mostly farm roads and highways but to be honest I use the clutch more in my Fiat than the Pete. The truck also has a 1999 DD60 so it is ELD exempt and no DEF. It is kind of nice in a 2019 Peterbilt 389 but like I tell all the kids with drool at the stops, I am always polishing and washing the truck. What good is it to drive a nice truck but never have it shine?

As far as the logs go I see little advantage to paper logs. I had it set up to use JJ Kellers setup for ELD. It will do monthly and annual reports along with IFTA and stuff. Very good and the DOT likes their setup. The owner does not want ELD so it is paper logs and paranoid DOT because of it.

As far as International trucks.... Man they can turn tight and get into many places I cannot even think about. Some with a sleeper can compete with daycabs of other makes. Old does not make it bad if the maintenance still gets done. That old there will be a lot of repairs even if just over 250,000 miles. Leaks and blow by is a regular up keep. Give it a chance and someone else will say theirs never had these problems but still an issue if trying to keep over 2500 miles a week.

If you aint shifting then all you are doing is hanging on to the wheel.

Another hint for good posture for when you are at the house. If you spend much time at the computer, get a backless kneeling chair. It pretty much forces you to sit up straight.

I would rather use a pre eld truck over a new truck any day of the week I love taking my time if I'm not in a hurry gotta a lot of place I nap at and I like being able to stop at a restaurant and eat in without worrying about messing up my clock

I don't know about that.? Keep you comic book look'n legit & what can they say.?

Not to mention last few times I've been inspected they either don't want to touch my rods :D lmao, because of covid coodies, or they are so hung up on asking me for a bol for the 5th time while hauling a load of post holes, they don't know what is going on..

There are some good inspectors out here that know what they are doing, but I have a feeling they aren't even teaching the new hires how to check paper rods anymore..

I decided to go pre-eld. I'm going this weekend to sharpen up on my gear shifting for a few hours. Having a bit more freedom in an over regulated industry will be nice. Hopefully the international rides well.

Traffic with a 18 is fine, just leave her in parade mode and leave a gap......

You need to spend some time in a Mack with camelback suspension if you think kw is rough.....

I’ll stick with my paper until I absolutely cannot any more

No ELD is good if your an O/O and wanna run like an outlaw. As a company driver it usually means the boss giving you illegal af loads and doing lots of "favors" for mr. boss if you know what I mean.

I drive cities and actually prefer manuals because of how often these autos like to "hiccup" on shifts (also if one sensor goes bad it wont let you move the truck lol). But nothing against the autos ... to each their own

    Hey good for you!
Can't hurt to try something different. IMO that is the exact right attitude when you said "bit more freedom in an over regulated industry".. Not saying to abuse it & run 5400 mile a week or anything. But you'll find some perks..

And if you absolutely despise the ol '99 you can always go back to the auto shifting nanny box right..? Lol :D
