Ok fellas, here’s one to confuse you. My radio has been working fine until yesterday. Then I get the Red light of Death on ant when I key up. Read the forums and everyone says the same thing Ground issues. This is a new Mack truck (3 months) and was working great with factory setup. I stopped at a CB shop to have it checked. They put on a single Wilson type antenna and bracket and ran new coax to the radio. I can get out and receive now, but still have the red light. Confused

Mine always lights red when I key up??
Mine is a cobra 29NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Mine is a 29 LTD Classic, the Rx/Tx light turns red when transmitting, but the Ant light shouldn’t come on unless there’s an issue. So I have been told.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Sounds like you've theoretically removed the antenna system as a possible problem. It would be interesting to see if a spare radio you have exhibits the same behavior
NavigatorWife and Bwakers Thank this. -
My 29 ant light would come on if the SWRs were way out of whack.

I believe the light is supposed to be lit up when transmitting.
When the light starts flashing when transmitting is when you have a problem. -
If you haven't yet, get a $25 SWR meter with a 2' jumper cable between the antenna and the radio. See what it says. If it shows 1.5 or less, put a piece of tape over the red light and drive on.
rachi and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
My Cobra 29 ant light always comes on when I key up too. I don’t think they are supposed to, because it didn’t in my old truck with a different radio, (same kind though,) but I can’t figure it out and finally just gave up. It talks and receives fairly well.
rachi and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
I have had issues with cobra radios before with solder joints going bad
NavigatorWife Thanks this.
