Is GMRS growing in popularity? I would say Yes!!! In the last year licensed stations grew from around 60,000 nationwide to a little over 100,000. In California the number is almost 14,000.

I have a funny feeling there are far more radios being used than licensees

I like the mount. The coax looks a little sketchy.

Suggested Family Radio Service/General Mobile Radio Service Band Plan. FRS/GMRS Channel 1, PL 67.0 Hz FM Narrowband (Mode 1/1) for random neighborhood contacts --- FRS/GMRS Channel 3, PL 94.8 Hz FM Narrowband (Mode 3/11) Emergency Preparedness Groups, Nationwide COMMS --- FRS/GMRS Channel 7, PL 94.8 Hz FM Narrowband (Mode 7/11) for random neighborhood contacts --- GMRS Channel 20, PL 141.3 Hz (Mode 20/23) Simplex random contacts and or road assistance --- GMRS Channel 20R, PL 141.3 Hz (Mode 20 Repeater) random contacts and or road assistance. This plan is for people that want to monitor for stations outside of their communications group.

Russ who suggested the plan you posted? There's a dude on YT who said he thought channel 16 would be the best trucker channel. He is just one guy though. He could be totally wrong

Okay watched again maybe he doesn't say "trucker" channel

I don't remember where I dug up the band plan template.. I does seem to make some sense for everyone to monitor a common channel with a universal PL Tone for that group/use. I've heard of 16 being used by the Jeepers (4 X 4 = 16)...

In the 70's channel 16 was the main SSB go to channel. No idea when or why it was moved to channel 38,39, or 40.

    Timin770 Thanks this.

They were used for sideband when the 40 came into existence.
