New independent family run truckstop opening in Mankato MN

You have no idea how excited we are. It’s been a lifelong dream of ours,” said Corey Freyberg to The Free Press.

Along with his brother Tyler and their dad, Steven, Corey helped break ground on the family-owned project, which will bring highly anticipated amenities to the area.


The truck stop will include a 3,000-square-foot lounge area, 70 initial truck stalls, eight diesel fueling stations, a truck scale, car wash, and eight gas pumps for cars. The two-story facility will feature a 2,700-square-foot restaurant and a 3,100-square-foot convenience store on the first level. The second story will include the large, overlooking the truck-parking area, as well as four individual restrooms with showers, and a laundry area with a pair of washing machines and pair of dryers.

The truck stop will be located on the east edge of Mankato at the County Road 12/Adams Street intersection.

According to a state study, the Mankato area has a shortage of places for over-the-road truckers to stop, putting the travel center in high demand.

The Freyberg’s have a history in the oil, tire, service, and trucking industry and are already known in the community for their family-run businesses. Steve Freyberg and family operate Freyberg Petroleum and Steve’s cousins Bob, Jim and Lynn ran Mankato Oil & Tire, before their retirement last year.

The project is expected to open later this fall.
