My box truck is a little slow going up hills. I’m traveling to Boston and I’m wondering if I should take 76 east or 80 east through Pennsylvania.

76 turns to 78 which goes through NYC. But if I take 80 I’ll be going across the Northern part of the state and I’m wondering if it will be more mountainous

sorry if this post is a lot of rambling

I prefer the mountains over those tolls. I 80 unless there is a lot of snow is OK. Even with a box truck going from the Ohio line to Carlisle is going to be VERY expensive. My best guess is $80+.

80 isn’t much worse then 76 in terms of hills

From Youngstown, really no way around 80, 78s just going to be longer, and cost a fortune. Shortest route, 80-81-84-90. Or 11 miles further 80-287-95-91-90, Or 24 miles further 80-287-95. I think the last route might be best, one toll going into White Plains NY. Best going through at night. Less hills after that. I definitely wouldn’t take the GW bridge. I’ve only taken the first route once, headed west, years ago. As I recall it had a lot of hills. Maybe someone else knows how much the tolls are, or knows a better route.

Not the least hilly but there's almost no tolls and the hills are mostly manageable. The least hilly of all would be 80-95 thru NYC and pay the tolls.

80 thru PA is less hilly than 76. I mean, thru PA they're both 100% hilly, but the hills on 76 are taller. On 80 I can usually get to the top before needing to downshift. And as an added bonus, 76 is the most expensive tollway in the world, whereas 80 is free.

    Just my $0.02.

Does not really matter what route you choose. If you are traveling at a slow speed, please stay in the right lane as much as possible. You will much more appreciated.

That's prob how'd I'd go too. No getting round them hills. I've only ever been on 76 across pa once. The hills on 80 are a little less and you don't have all those skinny sections like on the pike

Or you could always run the high road 86/90 across ny might be a better option. Where are you starting from?

A lot flatter that way. Few small hills in western NY
