I’m looking to buy a tractor. Does anyone have a check list type to inspect a tractor before buying it. Or things I should pay attention to when looking at one. Thank you

That's been discussed dozens of times, and a lot of folks likely aren't chomping at the bit to retype the same stuff they've already typed before. But the stuff they typed before can all still be browsed at your leisure via the search bar, and you don't even have to wait for people to come along and type it.

Not trying to be a dick, it's just that you can probably find the info quicker by reading it than by waiting for someone to type it.

Agreed. Plenty of info posted before.

what do you plan to use it for ?
    Pulling a 53 dry van?

    flatbed?
    Dump trailer ?

is this your first truck ?
How many years have you been driving ?
Are you slightly handy mechanic ?

    Running in California ?

Ridgeline did a pretty good post on this a little while ago I believe. If you can find it it's definitely worth a read.

Do Double due diligence now ! With the market hot fleets will send the problem children to auction early and get top price on low miles or hours .

Don't be fooled by the low mileage, if it was in the shop more than it was on the road, it will look brand new.

So many variables and need more info. I try and tell folks, stay away from dealers. It's best to buy a truck from an O/O retiring, they can tell you all about the truck. Remember, a truck with a "new" motor at a dealer, probably is a nightmare down the road, and good luck getting the dealer to acknowledge that. When buying a used truck, if possible, get all fluids analyzed. It tells a story. I tell everyone thinking of buying a truck these days, it's your funeral. It's as if O/O's have giant "F me" signs on their truck,,,and sadly, they get the raw end everytime. Really, remember, it's a lot easier getting a truck, than getting out of it, trust me.
