I plan on driving a local, intermodal route out of Atlanta. 3-400 miles a day. I know it won’t be a brand new truck, because the miles don’t add up to that kind of payment!! Also, it will be automatic, because I have the provision on my license and don’t want the hassle of booking and waiting for an appt. at the dmv!!! Not to mention, having to find a trailer!!! Whatever info. y’all have would be great!! Thanks.

Volvo automatic transmissions have the best reputation.

trucks with automatics, may cost more. trucks with automatics, may be more prone to higher repairs.

good luck, try buying a good used truck with a warranty on it. do not buy "as-is - as-seen"

While I’m not trying to overspend, the durability of the truck for short city miles is most important to me. I’ve definitely noticed the price hike in automatics tho, hopefully the fuel economy makes up for it over time! Thanks again

Really?!?! Not surprised, I guess. I’ve heard that Volvo makes a good truck but their shops are few and far in between. That shouldn’t be a problem for me tho in Atlanta. I’ll definitely check that out and keep it in mind.

if you do manage to find a decent used truck, any brand, get the automatic transmission pressure checked. try and get all service records, including any recalls. try and cajole the seller into a warranty.

Many companies lease trucks. Maybe find one at the Volvo dealership that coming off lease.

I'd suggest buying one off lease from one of the mega carriers. You'll know they've been well maintained and have service history. I know Schneider has an operation center south of Atlanta off 285 and has some 2017 / 2018 Freightliners / KWs for sale. schneider has been all automatics for many years now. Most are still under manufacturer warranty. I was there last week.

I left CR England and I’m with Swift now. They don’t do intermodal o/o’s here unless you were grandfathered in. I’m going to check on that tho. I heard an otr driver left before the truck was paid for and paid it off driving elsewhere. Thanks

I would have a good local mechanic lined up or your repair bills will be more than a new truck payment. Wish I could help more but I've had nothing but problems with automatics.
