Ouch, hard to say who is at fault for this one too. On the one hand the driver should have seen him, and may have been backing too fast On the other ive seen people be oblivious and walk behind a backing truck in the second or so a driver is looking in a diffrent mirror or pop out from behind/beside another trailer and give a driver way too little time to react.

I was backing to a dock at night and one stupid flip flop driver decided instead of going in front of my truck and around to go to the shipping office he walks behind my trailer and I was only 6 feet away from touching the dock and I almost hit him, didn’t see him until the last second. So be careful both ways and use your head. Blame it on the eld people are in a rush

Same thing is seen at the fuel isles
Trucks backing out of the fuel isle because the truck in front is doing who knows what?

And the speed races in the lots
I also believe the ELD is causing this. That and poor schooling

A "momentry lapse in reason" proved fatal. I sure "Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe", will have a field day with this, from backup alarms to sunspots. If I ever ran over someone, it would have been a career change right there. Made it through Covid, and gets run over by a truck. The world is a joke, although nothing funny here.

Early on in my trucking "career" my wife would run with me and she would always go back and pull the pin so i could slide the tandems. But I started doing it myself after onetime I got distracted with the Qualcomm and forgot she was back there leaning over the tires to pull on the handle. It was a wake up call that I heeded.

I am going to guess that what ever driver didnt know they were supposed to use all mirrors when backing. Probably only used the driver mirror thinking it was like moving their boat.

Assuming the driver did use his mirrors its possible the employee wasn’t aware of the truck backing up and may have been in the truck’s blind spot directly behind the semi.

Another big issue is that pisses me off in situations like this one is where people (in particular yard jockeys and sometimes drivers in semi trucks) try to cut across the path of a semi backing up into a loading dock or parking spot, inspite of the semi that’s backing up having its lights on and 4 ways activated. Some folks are just too impatient and don’t want to wait a few seconds for a semi to complete its docking/parking maneuver.

It’s the beat the train thinking

Now add the part to the equation that both drivers are inexperienced
