I like that pic. It keeps my aspirations in perspective and reminds me to keep it simple, stupid.
I love this thread.

I am Way too irresponsible to have that much power under my foot.
I'll still take this instead and roll my glass in Class.Last edited: Apr 9, 2021

Been a little slack with my accounting figures, so here's a quarterly update.
Didn't work a day in February. Hats off to those that did, but that was a nasty cold month round here. We fared a lot better than a lot of folks, but I've never seen a 2 week period that drained a 500 gallon tank of propane and the years worth of firewood in one hit (well - had to help the neighbor a couple of times on the wood.)
Total miles YTD - 13,348
Total TTT. - $39,223
All miles TTT - $2.94
Profit/expense 57/43
Fuel is at .44 cpm
Maintenance is at .27 cpm.
As I've said before, I stuff the maintenance receipts packet pretty full with anything I can legitimately pass off - this year it's full of truck wash/polishing/tools and the $2200 I paid to Brunners for boxes for the new trailer. None has been spent at the mechanic. Same with supplies.
Though the all miles TTT is a significant dip from last year, the ,miles are a bit inflated, 1,000 miles in there for picking it up, and running it for inspections, box measuring etc.
I've been doing a lot of regional repeat moves, no escorts, just 2 state permits and roll. When they line up for a return trip it's $3,600 on 600 miles, or single trips for $1,800 on 500 - of which 320 is d/head. There should be pretty steady work from it - one or two a week for a couple of years. It doesn't exactly make bank, but for the single runs they take up a 12 hour day so it's not hard work.
The week out with the SD stretch proved promising too. So there's choices.
Truck
Looking back, I've had it close to 3 years now. Odometer reads 1,285,058. So it's pretty much junk and needs to be trashed.
As said with the overstuffed maintenance packets, the exact figure is a little hard to pull out, with a split year of the previous truck - but the total is about $80,000 spent in that time. So it's about time for a year where I am not my mechanics' best customer.
Future.
Nothing is solid - but there may be a recurring project close to home next year that would require another trailer, and year round work, but potentially generate $400k. Still 9 months out, and lots can change. But it's a light in the tunnel.
Hope you all have been well.Nostalgic, tommymonza, Brettj3876 and 14 others Thank this. -
It doesn’t have that accessory on the luggage rack like the red one does, I imagine that would be quite expensive.Brettj3876, bigtravelr, JoeyJunk and 11 others Thank this. -
He also at the same time had his first Vette a evergreen 72 that he totally disassembled and straightened out the body and body lines and repainted.
He was a perfectionist.
After those he had a low low mileage 67 convertible, no Vettes anymore.
Someday I would like a 72 but can’t justify the big bucks for that old of a car .
Even the 73-77 are starting to go up in price.
After going to the Sebring track here a few times I think I would rather buy a ragged out c-4 and drop a 6.0 LS and thrash it out on the track.Last edited: Apr 10, 2021

You can park that in Texas and free up some garage space... Nice target in the background!

Just finished reading the entire thread. Took me about a week or so, but what a journey you've been on @blairandgretchen . My wife doesn't understand sometimes just keeping my 4 wheeler maintained with a lot of 'while you're in there' type of stuff, but I've never had a flat or had to call roadside for anything in several years now. Plus no payments makes a big difference, I can only imagine how not having mortgage-sized payment on a large-car like yours helps immensely with the profit at the end of the month. Loved all the sarcasm as well hahahahahah.
I just have a CDL and drove Vactors for my last dept up in the Bronx. No better way to cut your teeth than battling it out with TL&C cabs/Ubers/idiotic non-english speaking drivers in a Vactor grossing 55k+ with water sloshing around in the tank lol.
Now I'm enjoying a bit of the easier life, driving a bucket truck (Utility) that's in the 20k range, in Queens where it isn't as bad.
Looking forward to seeing more stories from you, hope the beer flu (thank @supersnackbar for that term lol) isn't affecting your loads all that much still.Brettj3876, JoeyJunk, God prefers Diesels and 1 other person Thank this. -
Im not sure I could handle the Bronx on a daily basis - credit to you!Oxbow, Brettj3876, JoeyJunk and 3 others Thank this. -
