Ok, so I have a question for you experts. A guy passed me today with a load that was taking up two of the 3 lanes on I-65. I thought he was running too fast but that's just my opinion and not the topic here. Lol.
He had 2 pole cars running up front and 2 chase vehicles. I've never seen 4 pilot cars with one load, is that normal? The two pole cars are about half mile apart but the two chase vehicles were running next to each other. That made a little sense because he was so wide.cke Thanks this. -

it is up to the state to assign the number of required pilot /police escorts when you get to the super load category. The permit applications are reviewed individually.
without knowing how wide/long/tall/ heavy it is difficult to say it was abnormal.
some states will require more pilot cars if counterflow is required or if all bridge traffic must be stopped.
Based on you saying he took up 2 lanes it leads me to believe wider than 18’ - so at that width you provide what they require. This why superloads are generally bid in very specific language - and if they are not one can lose their collective behindTug Toy, RStewart, cke and 1 other person Thank this.
