they toss inadequately trained rookie drivers on that lane come winter, it's a horror show
Flint1 Thanks this. -
Its the lane no one wants, and its the lane they import the most drivers to run, cause they simply don't know better. I personally know 6 people who were involved in serious crashes (mostly head-on) from "Surrey Company" drivers, and I know one guy who was killed at 3 Valley Gap, when a CNTL truck lost control on the downhill and ran right over him as he rounded the corner.
Hwy 1 is literally closed every single day for crashes, October-May and every other day in the summer. Often it will be closed in multiple spots at once, usually the Coq (Smasher), Merritt, Kamloops, Both Sides of Sicamous, the Death curve of Revelstoke and of course; Golden and Field.
My last 5 contracts, the first line read "No BC, unless in-transit to the US"Canadianhauler21, skipgears and Flint1 Thank this. -
It's not going to get any better with the Kicking Horse Canyon reconstruction adding a couple hours each way when it's closed. The section east of Radium is no joke either.
Magoo1968, BigHossVolvo, Canadianhauler21 and 2 others Thank this. -
You can only do two rounders a week. Or three one week, two the next.
Fuel is probably close to $1,000 per round. What other deductions do they take off your settlement?TorontoTacos, not4hire, Canadianhauler21 and 1 other person Thank this. -

We should not be allowing first-year drivers up on that lane through the Rockies, it should be reserved for top brass and paid exceptionally well due to all the dangers of that route. So in this case I'd welcome regulation. We need a government body to step in to mandate some of this stuff, otherwise it's just a flip-flop festival out there which isn't safe for anyone, really. Not one person benefits from any accident.
Like BigHoss outlined above, it's all true, it's a highway thru hell -- but it doesn't need to be. Yes, it will always be dangerous, but we can mitigate danger with safety protocols and experience proven professional drivers. I'd like to see those contracts honored by the best of the best, not the freshest of the new.Canadianhauler21 and AModelCat Thank this.
