Okay, I'll ask again. What brand and model radio do you have? Also, what year was it made?

It’s a very little known obscure brand.
You probably never heard of it before?
    It’s called STRYKER lol
My particular radio was built in 2020 but the model I have ( 497 HPC) has been made for quite a few years.
Look up the owners manuals for Stryker radios you will see the section I posted in the user manual.

My Northpoint radio works like that: solid red on transmit, flashing red if SWR is a problem

Okay, well there's the problem. We are talking about two different brands of radios. I find it weird that Stryker would make the AWI light come on when you key the Mike. Sounds confusing to me.

    Hulld and Roberts450 Thank this.

I see, they don't have a separate AWI light. They just combined it with the TX/RX.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but that seems like a good time for it to come on. Isn't that how an SWR meter works?
