Stopped in San Antonio for a truck wash and they sprayed the engine off, as per normal. Noticed the temp gauge fluctuating after that on the way to Larado. Now looks like coolant has gone dark, oil looks ok?
Any recommendations on who to take it to here, or try to limp it back to Canada?
Every US dollar is 1.32 of my dollars.

Sounds like it could be an oil cooler leaking if the coolant has gone dark due to oil contamination.

Rideandrepair, DUNE-T and Elroythekid Thank this.

I had the same problem in Fargo a few yrs back. Got the company I was working for to pick up my flat bed load and deliver it. I then bobtailed it back to Canada, actually New Brunswick. I kept a constant watch on my Temperature and checked the oil often. Got in a big snow storm in Chicago, followed the storm all the way home. Rebuilt the engine, saved some extra big money and got back to work. Hope everything works out for you. Not a good feeling.

There is definetly some sludge in the tank, but the coolant still looks clean. I do t have a filter system and always carry test strips and tested it and it tested ok for PH. The gauge fluctuating concerns me. I'm going to top it up and head north after my reset. I told them no US loads, direct to Canada and a light one. I'll keep a watch on the ph and oil, change them if needed. I would like to get it pressure tested but not disturbing it seems better at this juncture. 20210418_154102.jpg 20210418_154102.jpg 20210418_154118.jpg

It goes from just over 175 to almost 200 no load, temps were low. It's never done that, always rock solid.

Check wires at sending unit, truck wash may have affected them.

when I had a bad head gasket temp would rise fast from exhaust getting in water but cool down real fast when not pushing hard, could hear a noise in motor.
