Should i buy a CB radio

Yes get one. The worst part is remembering to turn the volume back up after you’ve turned it down for the 5th time that day because of some super trucker bragging about how he really “told his boss off,” or told another employee off, or just generally has a high opinion of his high and mighty self.

Other than that, I love mine.

 

If you don't have one you can never use it. If you have one you can leave it off until you need it. It is very useful in winter or during detours. Most detourshave a sign where you start bt after that nothing.

It's great for when your trailer is dragging an air line, etc. The lazy non-radio drivers will do nothing except raise an eyebrow if they drive by a truck with some issue.

If you do get one make sure you get a antenna and cable for it. These new trucks like Volvo’s and Freightliners have worthless built in antenna/cables.

 

First time mine saved me was not long after I got it - rerouted myself around a bad wreck, saving me 75 minutes of sitting in traffic by adding 5 miles to my route. And stuff like that has happened again many times since.

Got warned about a lost hazmat placard one time shortly before a scalehouse. Another time a driver informed me when one of my trailer airline springs broke, and I was able to pull over and re-secure it before it started leaking bad, saving me from a road call and a late delivery. Then there's the time I was warned about the cow standing in the road, or the herd of antelope crossing ahead, or all the accidents that just happened 20 seconds ago, and of course all the speed traps and other official chicanery.

Do I use it every day? Well I do turn it on every day, but usually that's the most use it gets. Has it paid for itself many times over? Definitely, one of the best investments I've made. Highly recommended.

 

Cheap one, I like my uniden bear cat, I also turn my squelch up so I can pretty much only hear the truck next to me, if you need to get ahold of me call me,for the most part, if you don’t have my number then I probably don’t care about talking to you to begin with

 

Yes I’m screaming yes... you can get a nice one for $50-150... you may not hear chatter all day 24/7 but if you’re ever in a city you’re not too familiar with youre just a holler away from somebody that knows the city like the back of their hand.. if there is anything going on that’s causing a backup you’ll know about it without having to slam on your brakes or get stuck in traffic..something going on with your trailer that you can’t see people will say something... it could potentially save your a- -

 

Also, if you're one of those rare people who has a conscience, then you can also do all this same types of stuff for other drivers too.

 

Waze app is much better at alerting you to road closures and accidents.

it will reroute you around the mess too.

CB’s aren’t worth the endless hours of BS for tiny nuggets of info

 

There's not as much bs as there used to be. And a cb can tell you about stuff so recent that waze doesn't know about it yet. Plus for me, that one broken airline spring alert paid for the cb by itself. Waze can't do that. But yes, I'll be downloading waze too now that I know about it. Another tool in the toolbox never hurt.
