I fully realize that it’s not easy. It’s a hustle and juggling loads and places. Yes I’ve spent the time and money to be legit to run under my own MC. I know it’s not a glamorous job and you can be down just as fast as you are up. But I’m willing to put the work in.

Thank you I agree the brokers seem to do a little bit of bullying because they hold the loads.

There are ebbs and flows in every business, and right now you will have some people dropping out as the cost of trucks and trailers continues to escalate, on top of that fuel is going up and "if" they pass this big insurance increase, I think the number of people trying to get into this business will dwindle for the first time in years. IOW, right now dealers are LOW on inventory, set "YOUR" price and stick with it, everyone will benefit, as some of these lowball guys will get run into the ground all by their own doing.

I think the rate depends heavily on the lane too. If you hold out for .80 a mile in south Texas you’ll never move. But then again I just filled up at Walmart for 2.54 a gallon too. I try to plan fuel when I’m empty so I unhook in the parking lot and creep over to the pumps. I generally have more time than money and it’s another small step in keeping my weight down and cardio up. I saveD .45 a gallon doing that yesterday. I do it a lot. It’s a lot of money over a year. I like the stress free environment of backlot, Acertus, carvana and the likes. I’d rather save money doing my own maint and unhooking for fuel than make a little more waiting on cod’s for 2 hrs to show up, chasing down 30 day payers, and all the other junk you find on CD. It’s all in your personal business model and what you’re looking for. But please do like the others and refrain from the cheap crap. .30 a mile down here sometimes. Look at DFW area to Houston rates. Absurd. Not even worth the possible insurance claim. Yet people are taking it. Like someone else said. They’re fat catting those cheap loads and won’t have anything saved to replace equipment

Wow I thought some of the rates near me were bad at .58 per mile. No I’m running smaller than desirable equipment but I won’t run if it’s to cheap. Even as long as I can book a return and it works out in the average. There are .50 non op loads here. I won’t even look at those. Are there many residential drop offs though BacklotCars? Running how I am those would be more suitable for most of my loads.

Bamrbaker,,,on a personal note how are you getting along with the Vinlocity app. Just curious if I'm the only one that has/had problems with it (we stopped hauling for them because of it) all the time.

Blackriver. I don’t do a lot of residentials anymore. The vast majority I did were good though. Even had one pick me up at pilot and bring me back to eat dinner with his family! He was ex military guy though that was an engineer like myself. But you’ll find those people. Better than the little 10 car lot that keeps you waiting 2 hours for a COD. Then gets mad because you won’t unload until you get payment. Even a check, sure they can cancel it. But you have recourse if you so choose with a cancelled check. DO NOT unload a COD until they pay you. Unless you know them. There are certain ethnic backgrounds here that run shady outfits because it’s the norm where they’re from more so than here. You’ll figure it out quick, I don’t want to sound racist on a public forum, hopefully I haven’t. But I’m glad to have some experience under my belt where I don’t need the headache anymore. Anyway enough of that soap box. Never an issue with backlot to answer your question. Make sure you renew your cert with them when you get it. Takes 48 hours from time you send it. They don’t use RMIS. K transit. I love the Vinlocity and all the apps. I like paperless. Acertus doesn’t pay the greatest. But I won’t do anything for less than .55 in my lanes, these are easy operables at pick and drop. But it’s no bs, eft. But my business model is set up around a young retired guy, one check coming in and retirement already setup at 65 with full health ins the rest of my life. I live modest with everything paid off and kids are already gone. So I don’t need to make as much. I actually enjoy it and keep it pretty stress free and other than a tax guy for the s corp I don’t pay anyone to do anything. I save $60 per fueling sometimes unhooking and going to wal mart as mentioned above. Avoid tolls where feasible. You know the gig. A lot of people stress themselves out chasing these huge rates while paying out all this money to have other people do all their stuff for them. See how slow cars are right now. Look at the length of my posts goodness. Sorry folks.

I'm good with "most" of the apps, and we are a dedicated used for ALL units moved of Super Dispatch, it tracks, archives, sorts, and keeps track of all my loads total, all my loads ind. and all of my loads by the truck/driver that hauled them. Only real down side is that now, I have to do TWO insp on a lot of units, IOW if I had to load a car for Acertus I would have to do my insp. for SD for MY records, then I have to turn around and do another insp. for Vinlocity, same as I would for a Ready car move, or any of the other guys that require their app to be used or won't accept Super Dispatch, The issue for me is, we have had nothing but trouble with the Acertus app, even tried different hardware, tablets, phones, etc didn't matter, app would freeze up, skip screens, would not let you finish insp. lock you out, so #### frustrating!!!!

Oh I see what you’re saying. I use it on an iPhone7 works great. However I don’t mark all the damages with all the codes and whatnot under the damage screen. It’s cumbersome and time consuming like most of them. However the CAN app is the worst for me to mark damages. It takes forever. So I just snap inspection pictures with a comment on each if its damage. Never had an issue. And I’ve had carmax try a time or 2.
