I don't run nor would run California. I wouldn't run a cabover. Would be nice to have, but from what I've heard from drivers past is they're uncomfortable and no longer around for a reason.

They’re still popular in Canada (mostly with heavy haul applications) and in other parts of the world. @Studebaker Hawk has a Freightliner Argosy that he’s had since brand new (it’s his avatar photo).

In other parts of the world the truck manufacturers just supply cabovers because length laws of each country. Drivers and companies don´t have a choice. It's take or leave it. That just plain sucks.

On the contrary it’s necessary as some of roads and streets in some countries (in Europe for example) aren’t designed for long length trucks.

Northeast also wasn't designed for long length trucks and yet we see some large cars rolling around.

Agreed. I did the math once DEF IF it is burning the correct amount is near $11-12k a year out of pocket.

Making a good living out here is difficult enough without more potential problems. Not worth it. You can restore that Pete's interior better than new. Sound mats, new floor, new seats, headliner and a great sound system.

You can get the guys that made the harnesses for the Glider Kits to make you one. Name l can't remember now but there are Glider kit threads here with their name. Or you could perhaps find a pre emission Cummins ISX. I would love a pre smog Signature 600 ISX in here.

And they’re rolling where they shouldn’t be sometimes!

if you’re not running in commiefornia, I’d definitely get a pre emission engine.
And I’d consider a pretty computer engine.
One that has a mechanical injection pump and no computer at all.

I’d get a full mechanical truck with zero computers, either with a big cam Cummins or 3406b cat engine and a 13 or 18 speed.
5 of my 6 trucks had a big cam 350 or 400 Cummins and they were reliable. The other was a 3406 cat and it was ok but was very expensive for repair parts .

I owned and drove several cabovers and some rode rough and some rode nice.

the internationals with the set back steer axle and air ride drives, rode like a cloud .
Sitting out in front of the steer axle made it ride very nice .

the last Few years they made some cabovers with a floor that was almost flat
I was doing local and regional work and backing into 8-10-15 docks a day, a cabover was nice because it was so maneuverable.

I also bought several Ford LTL 9000 tractors because they were 1/2 price of a Pete or Kw even though they had the same Cummins or Cat engine and had the same transmissions etc
    Plus they were different.

Anyhoo, don’t believe anyone who says the engine or trans or whatever was rebuilt unless they have the receipt and warranty paperwork. If they don’t have the paper , they are lying .

There’s good used pre emission trucks out there , for decent prices , you just have to be Sherlock Holmes to find them.
And plan on spending $8-10k for ten new virgin tires and new brakes shoes and drums and chambers and wheel seals all around.
Plus all new belts and hoses, and batteries.

a W-900L or T-800 or 389 Pete will cost more but they will always hold their value more than anything else.
The w9 has more room in the cab than the Pete

this link shows the completed auctions
I just typed in some random zip code

So you can see what the trucks sold for
You can adjust the brand and min and max year models to see anything you want.
You can also set it to see the upcoming auctions instead of the completed ones
