    Hey people

I'm looking a a couple volvo's I'm not an expert on these trucks by any means. One truck is 2013 vnl d13 u shift Tranny 3.36 rear diff 40k disc brakes the other is 2016 vnl64T670 d13 I shift 3 36 rear 40k drum brakes. Both trucks have 900k km (560k miles) the 2016 has full maintenance records since new the 2013 does not the 2013 is from a private seller who owned it for 9 months reason selling he is a fleet owner bought a new Volo (he typically buys Kenworth or peterbilt the 1st volvo he ever bought was this 2013 was so impressed he bought a new one) and is selling the 2013 privately the only issue he had with it was a nox sensor. The 2013 doesn't have the skirting along the fuel tanks like the 2016 does.

So I like the fact the 2013 has disc brakes and is almost half the price
The 2016 haa all maintenance records the same dealer has done 100% of the work on it since new and has a higher price tag.

So what can you guys tell me is the 2013 the better way to go ?
Are there issues with the 2013 volvos that was corrected by 2016 ?
Are these 2 trucks basically the same other than the manufacturer year ?

    Thanks SDF

The 2016 should be better since 2011 to 2014 were buggy on the emissions issues. The 2013 falls into that span.

I talked to volvo the only difference between the 2013 and 2016 is they increased the EPS from 10 to 14.
The mechanics drive train are exactly the same. They did not address the injector cap issues till 2018.

16 is a little better with injectors and a little bit better with gear train and head, 13 usually have gear train issues, 16 dont, injectors not much better, aftertreatment is better but wiring for chassis is actually worse at times. not as many SCR and DPF issues on 16, 13 almost notorious for dropping valves in the piston 16 not as much, if it was my choice i would take the 16 still try to do overhead once a year that way if something is off with the valves you can change the head without having to rebuilt the engine.

Just look at it this way its for sale for a reason. The last person that owned it had a problem with it. What the problem is, only they know. That being said the 2016 sounds like a better deal. The 2013 sounds shady. He was so impressed with it, hes buying a newer volvo? That dont sound right. If he was really as impressed as he claims he wouldnt be selling it

    DUNE-T Thanks this.
