I was wondering if any other drivers have experienced the lack of good customer service from the corporate offices of the large travel centers in USA. I have sent questions, complaints, compliments and suggestions to TA/Petro, Pilot/Flying J and Loves over the years and you get mixed results.

Loves and Pilot/Flying J will usually respond within 24 hours. They are receptive to all inquiries either good or bad and will answer your concerns or problems. TA/Petro on the other hand NEVER answers you emails and either doesn't care or they have lost all customer service skills during all the management changes over the years. When E. Phillip Saunders owned the company, the original Truckstops of America, things were done top notch and they cared about the drivers. Even back to when Thomas O'Brian ran TA it was top notch and you could talk to someone.

No doubt, TA will begin to fade away and die a slow death. Their shops are expensive and the techs are not highly trained. The paid parking has gotten out of hand with 50% or more of their spots requiring $. Showers are getting very expensive too. And now they start closing Country Prides and Iron Skillets just to cut their costs and lease to IHOP. Fast food and roller dogs are their "money in the bank" way for them to go.

i cannot recall ever trying to contact the corporate offices. most times, if i had a complaint, i'd find the manager.

the cost of doing business, is going up all over the place. owner-operators are faced with rising costs in fuel, taxes, insurance, medical benefits, etc... so a truck stop raises prices on showers is a no brainer.

try to find ONE industry or business where prices are not rising..???

    you can't..........

i do recall more than once, that i'd see a trucker, a cheap arsed jerk, not leave a proper tip for the waitress.

i always left at the very least, 20%.

this is why many years ago, the truck stops started to cater to the families, and ordinary road travelers......they tip better, and are most often MORE RESPECTFUL to the wait staff, and are not LOUD, boisterous use foul language and RUDE to the waitress.......you know that's true.

when you have a staff of employees, such as a waitress, making LESS than minimum wage, and have to depend on tips, to make up the difference, how does she survive, when morons do not tip, or tip properly? and at some point, the eatery see's it as a losing battle to constantly put in the balance to get her up to minimum wages.

sooner or later, the wait staff ups and quits, and got to a REAL restaurant that the customers REALLY DO tip properly.

as drivers, many gripe about not being paid to fuel, or do a pre-trip, or to wash the truck/trailer....or have to wait a long time at the loading docks before someone starts working on thier trailers.

and those same truckers gripe, when they have to eat fast food, since all the sit down truck stop restaurants close up, and pay even HIGHER prices, for such...."fast food"....

as a retired driver of 48 years, frankly i think drivers deserve what they get, in regards to higher prices, lousy food, no parking, all cause of the me-first, screw you attitudes, road rage or aggressive driving, and the list goes on and on.

the "Knights of the road", ended when many of us started retiring, and it's an "all for me" attitude and has been for many years now.

I've never emailed PFJ or Loves, but I did once to the TA. And as @navypoppop said, I never heard back from them. Seems like they would at least have a autosent reply to acknowledge receipt of your email. Sad that they are taking the Petro down with them.

Truck stops are a business. Businesses are in it to make a profit. If your sit-down restaurant isn't making money, replace it with fast food or another restaurant that will (hopefully) make a profit. Also, the labor pool out there isn't all that "skilled" when I observe them. A good mechanic will command better money working at a dealership rather than a truck stop.

In the past couple years TA Petro has shown me they don't care about our opinions on what we want in a truck stop but I stuck with them until about 6 months ago until I gave up on them .
I can get fast food anywhere and I'm certainly not going to pay premium prices at ta petro for garbage food and a piss poor points program .
I'm not a fan of dennys but at least I can get a healthy sit down meal there without dealing with the loves mob and garbage food so shifted my biz back to flying j and a few independents.
Congrats ta petro you've gone from having 90% of my fuel business to almost none .
Next time I do stop at a ta petro I'll probably cash out the points and toss the ultra none card in the trash .

when you speak of just the truck stops not caring about our opinions, it does not stop there.

we have rather large supermarkets chains here. at one time, the store manager would help you, if you had either a concern about a product or wondered why a certain product was no longer on the shelves.

now, you make any sort of complaint, the managers shrug thier shoulders.

customer service is not what it used to be and i don't see it coming back. you want food..?? you either buy it or you don;t.

you want fuel? you either buy it or you don't.

you want a shower? you either earned it with your purchase, or you pay for it

you want parking? you either get there early and find a spot, or you pay, or you get out.,

just like the supermarkets, they could care less if you stay, pay, or get the hell out.....

whoever takes over, and this may take years after the truck stops have been abandoned for years, it'll be all peaches and cream at first, then same ole, same ole in due time.

Very true !! And ta petro has hit the point where they don't have anything to sell me anymore unless it's emergency shop work.

Ya know, I can agree with some of this. I agree people deserve what they get. But it goes both ways. Those waitresses you mention, they also deserve what they get. Perhaps one is having a bad day, and her attitude is less than friendly. Obviously someone isn't gonna be as generous with a tip.

And then you see these pigs that dump their trash in the parking lots, it's no wonder paid parking is becoming more popular with the truck stop operators.

The fast food? Well, sometimes stopping for a nice hot meal in a restaurant isn't an option.

Gotta call BS on this though.

When I was younger, I sometimes needed help or advice. I sought after older, experienced drivers when I needed advice or help. Many times I was met with "figure it out yourself",or "just quit, the job sucks anyway, don't make a career of this" or even refusal to even acknowledge me. Fortunately, I didn't let it deter me. But I can see how someone would be turned off by this supposed "Knight of the Road"

We learn what we see. And I can absolutely say, some of what I've seen by the older crowd, makes me shake my head in disbelief. Some of were just complete scumbags. Although there's still a few good ones.

I also think that the way the customer service has gone downhill is partially caused by the actions of some of the older generation. The youngsters are paying the price for the actions of the generation before them.

And not all rookies or people younger than yourself are the boogeyman. Quite the contrary. Many just do things a bit differently than what the old timers do. I've seen good and bad out of those younger than I am. For the most part, I have nothing bad to say about them. And I help them when I'm able

yes, i was totally ignored by a waitress at the Petro in Bordentown, NJ, ..so when i got my check, i got up and cashed out, and left her no tip. she deserved no tip that day..otherwise, i always tip 20%.

i do see the paid parking as a way to pay the worker(s) to clean up. as if many times, as it is now, the truck stop workers are stretched for duties.

i always tried my best, to help a newbie/rookie. i even offered help backing, if they wanted it...

ya know what..?? and this only took at least 2 times to happen, and i gave up..

some punks, (these 2 different times) told me to Mind my own business. and EACH ONE still managed to hit something!!

after trying those 2 times...i GAVE up on helping anyone.

fast forward several years later, i was an instructor at 2 CDL schools in my state.....so now, EVERYONE HAD to listen to me.....

no, not everyone is a "boogeyman".....only the idiots, morons, jerks and dumbarses are.....and that is usually always on days, where the day ends in a "Y".......
