I turned 21 a few weeks ago took my cdl permit test honestly just to see how hard it was and if I failed atleast I'd know what's it like. Passed with air breaks combo and tanker figured it's just better to get it out of the way.

Working a dead end job making 13/hr I'm rural pa at a school district been here a year and some change. This is my first job couldn't get any before because I literally had 0 vital documents. Ssn birth ect finally got all that cleared up.

Been thinking about trucking for a while I have no problems at all being isolated and away from others infact I prefer it that's just how I grew up. no experience at all driving a trailer figured maybe I can rent one when my truck gets out of the shop and practice a bit.

Are there many paid training schools that will accept 21 year olds with limited work history. Getting references aren't a problem either. And the local votec costs 6-7k and it's like 2 hours away. But costs around the same as a paid schools. Currently my monthly expenses are around $750 a month truck payment insurance ect. And I have enough money saved up to last me a minimum of 3 months with no income.

If you guys have any tips for me or any paid training carriers you recommend let me know!

Hell you are only 21. First step for me would be to move to Tennessee or Texas, for no income tax and to remove myself from the most overtaxed hellhole in the entire US. There are lots of companies that will train you to drive their trucks and will pay you 500 or so a week while learning. Choose wisely.

I'm in pennsylvania not california lol tax ain't bad here but I've always wanted to move to Texas anyway. Just sucks I still owe 10k on my truck and my aunt is the co signer. Other than vehicle and phone I've got no bills. Yeah 500 is what I'm looking for that's about what I make now

Also about to be paying 1k on truck repairs. A shop dropped my truck from a lift and broke 2 rear crossmembers / shock mounts. Their insurance came and. Took a look saw surface rust and just told me to my face it should have broke it's because of the rust. I live in the rust belt if be more concerned if there wasn't surface rust. Needless to say they didn't cover it

Moving is a toss up i dont know anything about Pennsylvania and taxes but the above poster does make a very good point second is to try and obtain a cdl on your own or go to a good company. You want to go ltl or something of that nature they pay well abf has a program to get a cdl and have a good size terminal in Carlisle and many other places if you go union try to get into abf not yrc the pension credits are better there unless something has changed in the past 5 years.
