My fiancee is sick and I would like to stay home with her. I saw that I have 61 hours of sick time available. I had no idea drivers even get sick time. How on earth would I even use it? She got food poisoning from the food I bought her go figure. She's going home early from work and I'm like 5 hours away on a load coming back home for my 10. Anyone ever heard of a driver taking sick time lol.

Some companies offer sick time. Most don't. Better for you to call HR at your company and ask them about this so you can get an accurate answer instead of speculation.

How do drivers not know what they earn in compensation?

We get vacation days and are able to cash them out or actually take time off. I personally cash the full amount out as soon as it’s available. If I quit or I’m fired I’m not paid those for vacation days.

I’m not sure why you thought food poisoning was a good way to get rid of her. There are other quicker options LOL

You might want to check into that. Certain states it's illegal to not pay unused vacation time, besides just being a jerk move.

It depends on the state. Some of them, like CA, require sick time if you are running there.

Back in June of last year I had accrued 91 hours of sick time, then I got injured and had to shut down for a few days. I used some sick time, and after that I had 68 hours left.
Today it is back up to 86 hours.

Whether you can use sick time to be home with a loved one would be up to the company, I'm pretty sure.
Unless you wanted to lie about it and just tell them you were sick, which could backfire on you.

i've had food poisoning at least 2 times in my trucking career.

i was on the road, both times.

i got better in less than 48 hours

by the time you get home, she may even feel 75% better.

and in the future, remember that food poisoning may not really kill......you'll either have to hire a hitman, or hire piano movers, to drop a baby grand on top of her.....

I took sick time a yr and half ago. I ended up in the hospital w/ the flu. When my husband notified our DM that I was in the hosp, he immediately put us as unavailable and informed payroll that we were using 5 days of sick time.
