For everyone that’s against putting a twist in your straps...

Knots take about 50% of the strength out of lifting slings and cables. Can't see why it wouldn't effect straps the same way.

 

Let's say a twist DID weaken them. If you're putting so few straps on your load that the decreased WLL is actually an issue, then maybe pull a dry van.

If you pull 48k net, that load only requires the strength of five straps to begin with.

 

I learned this years ago when my quad broke down out in the woods and my buddy took his riding jacket and got it wet and twisted it as many times as he could and pulled me 2 miles out of the woods.

 

I always twist my straps if they span any significant length. I hate the buzzing and wind noise. I think the vibrations weaken them. Because it vibrates against the load and wears them. That's my theory anyways and I'm sticking to it....lol.

 

Same. And if you look in your mirrors and a twisted strap is vibrating, you know it's loose. No guessing.

 

Love this I kind of testing/info, there is really no way a single twist would/could weaken a strap provided it is not twisted where it is tightened.
I would like to see if there is a diff in strength due to temps like freezing weather etc.

I sometimes twist and sometimes don’t. Really depends on the load. I always lay into them if load allows and whether they are straight or not should not buzz. Of course some things we can’t crank on as much.

1/2 a twist for me on each end, (hook end and ratchet end) equals a full twist one strap.

Edit: sometimes I’ll end up with 3, 1/2 twist, depending on the load. 1/2 on each side, and sometimes another 1/2 twist on top of the load.
