I didn't realize the 2nd amendment caused people to be violent...

It doesn't. It just guarantees our right to bear arms against those that are. Valuing my property more than your own life was mistake number one...

Maybe I do carry. I do not advertise the fact, maybe I don't. What I will tell you is if you get dispatched to Canada, and get searched entering Canada your in a heap of trouble. I most cases a gun is going to dig into a situation you could have simply driven away from, with a little common sense. Do not leave stuff tempting thieves to break in laying about your dash, Keep your doors locked, trust the hair on the back of your head, a HOS violation is better than having Bubba sneak in while your sleeping. I have called employers to let them know I was moving the truck because I felt it was unsafe to stay where I was at. I tell them I do not ask for permission.

Right. But the original statement I believe was saying that the level of need for protection was sad. Not that the laws allowing self protection with a gun are sad. The post I was replying to was either posted due to amazingly poor reading comprehension or just a desire to off track a reasonable observation for emotional reasons.

Just thought I would add in my personal thoughts on the matter. Im working for a carrier that has a no gun policy, so pretty much everywhere I go with a truck is a non-premissive environment. I don't ask questions or tell anyone though because I know that in the end I am on my own if things really go wrong.. the police are not obligated to protect me and nether is the carrier. Of course, I have a carry permit and I make sure it's legal in the state I'm going through. If it isn't, I've got two lockboxes to make sure I can comply with the federal safe passage act.

The point of having a CCW though isn't to jump into bad situations uneunnecessarily. It's in case those steps to avoid conflict failed, using a firearm is supposed to be the absolute last resort. Especially since even if the defense is 100% justified it's still going to cost the defender 10s of thousands of dollars in legal fees defending them self against a murder charge.
It's not about property defense. If I'm sleeping in the bunk and someone forces their way inside of the truck.. it can be reasonably assumed that they are there to kill me, because in a deadly force situation there's not any time to find out what the individual's intentions are until it's too late. They might be coming in to steal my wallet or they might be there to axe murder me, I would not know at that moment in time.
Now on the other hand.. if I'm just walking back to my truck and I catch someone red handed breaking in... using my firearm at that moment would indeed be excessive.. it's all situational.

What I do is have all of my privacy curtains close especially nigh time. So I have a conceal weapon and also I wrap the seatbelt multiple times on the door handles (make sure you have enough length to hook it to the buckle) if a theft truck to get into your truck but with the seatbelt wrap around the door handle click into the buckle. Your truck door will open just a little but not enough for anyone to slip in.
Many other truckers probably have a lot of ways staying safe while sleeping in their trucks. Definitely do this during NIGHT HOURS!!

Unless you have bail out doors in the bunk, that's a great way to rotisserie yourself should the truck catch fire.

Agreed no way am I trapping myself in my truck if it catches fire.

park in well lit truck stops or rest areas and not in BFE or somewhere you shouldn’t.
May or may not have carried when the gf was with me. Mainly so if she was in the truck she could defend herself.
Occasionally swim may have kept one tucked when picking up in shady areas but it meant the cops were as much of a threat as any gang trash running around.

Shotguns, unloaded with locked up ammo are typically safe in 48 states.
