Just looking for some advise as I get ready to run under my own authority. I plan to buy a used truck and am trying to figure out which truck will be most cost effective and reliable so that my business is a success. I plan to run locally and regionally in northeast US. The two trucks that have caught my eye are as follows:

    2013 T660 with 568k miles for $30k MX-13 and ten speed manual
2017 Prostar with 372k miles for $54k ISX-13 and ten speed manual

Any advise from the seasoned drivers? I am inclined to go with the PACCAR but I know I need to focus on my business needs over my personal preference.

I own a 2008 KW T660 and have had good luck with this truck. 1.3 million miles and on her 2nd rebuild. I have a friend of mine who had a Prostar and he had that truck forever it seemed. I guess it depends on the individual truck. One can be a P.O.S and the other never give you a problem. Part of buying trucks is personal preference, looks, etc.

The T660 will hold it's resale value better but the Prostar has a has a better engine. Take your pick I guess. In this case it's probably each truck on it's own merits. I'd drive both for a couple hours and there's bound to be something about one of them you can't stand!! (Kinda like my ex boyfriend!!...LOLOLOL)

I would pick the prostar with the Cummins isx15. No Navistar. That truck has the updated 2016 isx15 Cummins. They fix a bunch of things. Especially the after treatment system. I own a prostar 2015 . Wished I picked the 2017. Just take a mechanic with you and check if they got the service records. If not be prepared to replace/clean some after treatment components. that’s part of maintenance so it’s normal like the def dozer need to get replaced every 260k miles etc. one more time. No NAVISTAR maxforce.

Thanks for the advise! I have driven Prostars and T660s in the past. But both were as a company driver and I didn't really think about the maintenance and fuel economy side of it all. Now I am in the position of needing to look at the whole picture.
