Hey what’s going on trucking family,

I have an excel sheet that keeps track of my expenses, (fuel, maintenance, monthly expenses, etc.) I was wonder how do some of you keep record of how many miles your driver has driven and how much you’re paying them. Right now I’m just trying it in word and tallying up the miles at the end of the week and paying what’s owed to him. Is there a better way of doing things or is that pretty much the best way to keep track?

    Hi MYHauler,
I'm an independent O/O and use an ELD for miles. If you want to separate miles from pay there are cost effective mileage reporting devices you can attach to your truck that can be configured to report out specific data. It really depends on your budget and time constraints. One of the low-cost ways I used calculate miles was based on a notebook that has my loads written down in chronological order with addresses.

Yeah I have KeepTruckin ELD that I use to keep track, I guess I always like to have a backup plan. Right now I write down the miles from the pickup location to the drop off location, and I’ll do that all the way until the end of the week just for my own records
