Amazon does all of the planning, no matter who you drive for. Every day you are making it back to terminal with just a few minutes left on HOS. I never fooled around one minute. Amazon purposely pre-plans all days to be 14 hours. If you thought you might finish a little early, they will have you shuttle empties just to make sure you get 13:55 minute HOS. You can tell they don't include pre-trips and breaks and fueling when the do pre-plans.
The fleet I drove for were all painted and labeled "Amazon" plus I always pulled Amazon trailers...yet, I did not work for Amazon. We drove Natural Gas fueled rigs. The fueling station was out of the way..PLUS..they are difficult to fuel. Even after watching YouTube videos over and over to make sure I was doing it correctly,
Only a few gallons would go in at a time.
Last time I refuelled, it took 5 separate transactions to fill tank. Believe me, Amazon does not take that into account.
Any minor delays and you will burn your HOS. I ran Amazon Dedicated for Swift a few years ago. This was before Amazon was doing ALL of the pre-plans. We drove 6 hours a day max and waited 6 hours a day. Every day was a cake walk. Now Amazon is 1000 times more efficient. Zero waiting or just a few minutes and all driving.
My boss misuses the "Conveyance" to thwart the HOS. He tells us to go off duty to "convey" our tractor back to terminal after our 14 hours are burnt. I am not exaggerating, he would ask us punch out for lunch on the App yet keep driving so we can be on time. I know he was feeling the heat from Amazon, but Amazon planners are not taking heavy California traffic, the legal necessity to take 2 ..30 minute lunches (unpaid), breaks because of the 14 hour shifts. I didn't want to take the second lunch because that is the main reason our HOS was burned up every day.
Long story short, local Amazon Dedicated runs are impossible to do legally. I quit after first week because there was no way I was going to argue with the boss every day about running illegal to make the delivery times. Plus Amazon doesn't want us taking lunch in their yard. On top of all the BS I mentioned before...trying to find a place to park in dense urban California settings for 1/2 hour, plus two lunches MUST be taken between 4th and 5th hour...not before not after. Same with the second lunch. Forget about Calif. 15 minute breaks that we should be entitled to 3 because of 14 hour shifts.
Yeah, I know all this BS is illegal, let's say you sue. You have to pay lawyer's retainer fee out of pocket. I guarantee you Uncle Jeff has much deeper pockets than me. LOL. In my estimation, only companies running paper logs and 2 or 3 log books can do this particular job.
You have been warned!
Beware of ANY local Amazon Dedicated positions.

Amazon is right up there with Wal mart and Kroger and such . I don’t shop or haul the freight. Amazon or Wal mart they can both go duck off. Mom and pop shops all day long

It’s not Amazon completely that’s making you work. It’s also your company.
Amazon doesn’t know your starting time or ending time. Even if it’s a block.
Your company assigns you the work. Simple as that. When you have free time your company rep calls Amazon rep directly and see what else they can squeeze out of your time.Texas_hwy_287, Jaebo74 and Mattflat362 Thank this. -
You being paid hourly? No? Then don’t play their game.
They don’t like it call your local dot inspection station and tell them what’s up what trucks and what company.
if they’re making you do it they’re making all of them do it most likely. Hit em where it counts the wallet.
I don’t believe in being vindictive but they’re trying to get you to risk your freedom and license possibly even your life.Malt Ball Cult, Vladpryde, alds and 3 others Thank this. -
So that’s why they always stop on the shoulder of the interstates…

“I hate you! I wish I had never been hatched!”
“Oh, Scott, that hurts Daddy. Are you sure you wouldn’t want to come drive trucks for Daddy?”Mattflat362, Lonesome and JoeyJunk Thank this. -
