Hi All,
I started teaching 4 years ago as a mid life career change. I have not handled the summers off very well. Give me two weeks and I'm good.
Is getting a Class A or B feasible for someone looking to do it in the summers only? I also have personal time saved up where I could do a few 5 day trips over the school year.
Is the timeframe much shorter for training and maintaining a Class B?
I love the great outdoors, so it does appeal to me to see the country, but again I don't know if it is feasible for companies to hire people to drive their Class As or Class Bs just in the summer or part time?
Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Go and do tutoring. Trucking doesn't lend itself to part time work. About the only sections that I can see that would be hiring during the summer is construction and agricultural. And they will both want you well into the fall....

What I would do, is drive the wife insane first, then get the CDL.

Many drivers do what you're considering. Some work a few months then travel overseas for a few months.
A temp. service is you're best bet on that.

What state are you in? Quite a few companies on the left coast are hiring water truck drivers for fire season.

Search for a 160 hr. cdl school. Maybe get started in school as soon as summer vacation begins. -
I’m no marriage counselor, but if you are driving your wife insane, then you driving a truck isn’t going to stop her from going insane.
Also, as an FYI, your time teaching will have to be taken out of your available hours of service.
Can you teach summer school, or coach a soccer team or something? Not that I’m trying to talk you out of it, just making some suggestions.Jarhed1964, Doealex, slow.rider and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm in the Kansas City area. I know the JUCO has one and I saw there was a Roadmasters School.

Run dump truck for a landscaping company? Or dump truck during summer paving?
slow.rider Thanks this. -
I used to be a school bus driver and I worked summers cutting grass at the country club. It was great, I got up early and started cutting the fairways at around 6 am, and was off work by 2 pm.
Another job that I almost did was drive the bus for rafting companies in College.slow.rider Thanks this.
