If I was going to buy a truck it would probably be a similar one. You get most of what makes the old long nose trucks great without paying the premium you would for a 379 or w900.

If the truck is in half decent shape it can be a real moneymaker. My choice out of the gate would be to find a good company to lease on to and start making money. It wont take long to earn your investment back.

I would at first avoid getting your own trailer. Start making some money first before taking on more debt. Plus trailers are stupid expensive right now. I would also wait on the APU. Its a lot of cash to front right out of the gate. For now idling makes more sense. At most get a small inverter generator and a portable ac if you run in areas where you cannot idle. Keep your expenses low out of the gate and add things as your profits allow.

If you can keep your expenses low out of the gate you will be able to be cashflow things in short order that will make your business better while also being prepared for break downs and slowdowns in the market.

 

800 Horse power? Where do you guys pull these numbers out of ?

I've spent some time around big diesel powered sport fishing yachts with hopped up marine motors marinized to the likes of Johnson and Towers and Mann and their not pulling that kind of reliable horsepower out of a 12-14 liter motor .

 

C16 cat with 82mm bw turbo full tilt manifold marine c18 cam. 58/ injectors and a hot tune. Can make more but this is plenty for now.

That's easily around 800. The C16 with just a tune is capable of 700

 

Stock on road c-16 is 575 hp. Another 225 horse is a huge gain , how do you cool the CAC?
In marine form you have endless seawater to cool the air charge and the engine.

 

I know 2 guys that have CAT engines turning out about 900 HP... But both will tell you that ya got to be #### careful ya dont burn the ##### down.

I'm not super knowledgeable about the nuts and bolts of getting more HP out of an engine. But I know for sure that one of those guys has a dual turbo setup, custom oversized radiator, and a few other bells and whistles...

I really cant see the point of more than about 700 to 750 hp myself... But if you got the money to blow and you want to do it... More power to ya.

Side note: Both the above mentioned guys have burned down more than thier share of engines trying to get big HP... And I'm sure they will burn down a few more.
