Isn't securement in a dry van supposed to be the same as a flatbed?

It should have been blocked with boards nailed to the floor. But it’s only going forward if anywhere. A couple straps to keep it from bouncing, across the back. I’ve hauled a few Forklifts, like that. Also a large Swamp Buggy. There so heavy, they won’t budge. A couple straps looks good. But aren’t strong enough to hold the weight. I’ve hauled cars, 2 pallets in nose, 2 between cars. I put straps, set parking brakes. That was overkill. I just don’t want a ticket. No place for chains. About all you can do. You can read up on final rule for Van load securement. It was debated for a few years. Basically says, that walls are sufficient. I’d throw a couple straps across the back of it. Looks good. I’d rather haul that, then 5 9k unsecured, rolls of paper.

That machine weighs less then 8k pounds. On an open trailer it would not require four points of securement and a chain Over the boom and blade. That’s the regulations for machines over 10k pounds in weight. A couple of straps over the tracks and your good to go. Legally anyway.

bobcat loads machines in dry vans all day long.

It may be legal, but if something happens a lawyer and jury will have a field day with your ###. Just saying

When I ran for North American Van Lines we would sometimes haul those small Kubota tractors with the loader on the front and the backhoe on the back. Fit 7 of them in a 53' trailer. Had 2" ratchet straps with the usual thing the hooked to the logistic posts on one end a hooks on the other. I used 4 on each tractor and may not have been legal but I never had one move on me either. The bedbuggers hauled cars with the same kind of straps.
