Hi ya'll,
I've been an auto sales manager for 18 months and left trucking. But, now all the dealerships are starving for cars and things are looking down. It's time to go back to the only thing else I know how to do...
Drive truck. I'm 29, I have 3 years of "Local / Regional" Heavy haul but it's been since December 2019 since I've driven. I started looking around for places to work recently and stumbled upon a local Flatbed company with 12 drivers with 379/389 pete's that would have me off the weekends and by the house a couple times a week. I just want to see a few drivers comments on the pay.. Because it seems a little low for my Experience.
.46 CPM
$25 a stop
$25 p/h detention after 2 hours
$100 a tarp, but its rare we tarp
Ungoverned trucks, No cameras, Tuned up
Benefits after 60 days
Weekends off
The owner said she'd give me the OD/OS loads and such because her drivers are not interested in the specialized stuff and there would be more money for that.
No Rider policy at this time. (my gf is a teacher and i wish she could come out for a bit)
But, I'm not looking to be out more than a few nights a week. So, is that the trade off? Home time but a little lower CPM? I'm seeing adds now adays for 50-60cpm with rider programs but you're not home too much.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm Coming back to the Industry. Quick Question.

QuietStorm and homeskillet Thank this. -
Maybe look around a little more and see what you can find. Not being able to take a passenger with you is a little unusual these days.

I'm no sure where you live at but I've seen Jobs asking for preferred experience of only (1 year) paying $0.55 to $0.60/mile. Truck Driver Class A $.60 cpm start IMMEDIATELY!! - Miami, FL - Indeed.com I don't understand any driver would even look at $0.46/mile? Yes, you haven't driven in a couple years as for a job however seeking how the overall industry is if you aggressively apply for reasonable paid jobs someone going to give you that chance. To much drivers only focus on one or two job applications without a decent resume when they should put more into their job resume and application which is the selling point for a drivers experience!

Only passengers you have are the bugs on the windshield.slow.rider, snowwy, tscottme and 3 others Thank this. -
How many miles Per week are they quoting? And how many stops?

If you're on the west coast.
That may be average pay.
The west doesn't pay as good as the east.
Or it didn't when I left the road 5 years ago.
Back then it was around $.35.
$100 to tarp. That's darn good pay.
The 3 companies i worked for. Were free.
I think Melton and systems were paying $25 back then.slow.rider Thanks this. -
Depends also on the cost of living where you are.
and home a couple nights a week and weekends off is also nice.
The big question is what’s the average weekly earnings?
and how much home time do you want .
I know you need to earn a living but balancing home and family time with work is important .
And can’t you collect PPP and unemployment now if you’re not working?
the good money doing local or regional is in gasoline tanker or LTL at a union company like yellow or old dominion.
If you can hold on long enough the car sales will be back and booming.
They will sell themselves.
This covid thing is almost like a miniature version of world war two.
Nearly ever factory shut down. Shortages of everything and plenty of money to buy stuff when it’s available again.
