If seller has paper work on rebuild , it should have s/n and the arrangement # on the paper, even with the s/n if you don't have the arrangement # it's unhandy when getting parts ( got the same problem ) . I don't even have paperwork on mine , if I did then, maybe I could check part #s that was used and be able to track down a s/n . When I get back to my diggings , I'll post some s/n s that are close to each other but , without arrangement # the outside accessories are harder to match up - fuel lines- air compressor drive- ect.

 

ser # is stamped in the block If there's a warranty the ser # will be on there

 

Little cat is cat is correct on this, if your going to get warranty on this engine , you can bet your boots that somewhere on that engine there is a postitive way to discern this one from a similar one! S/N is on tag left side back top of block and usually it's stamped into the block under the tag. If there is no way to be positive this is the engine that they are willing to warrant and you have a issue with it , it is possible that , they could say " this is not the engine we warranted - you must have switched " now you don't have a leg to stand on legally. Similar cat 3406 b,c,e #'s - 6Z , 7FB , 3ZJ , 4MG all basically same block with different arrangement #'s.
