If you don’t feel you are efficient and dragging, too late imo. Do exactly what you do. It’s a no win situation if you try and step up when someone is watching. They already know. Or they may wanna see how your route goes, and see why you do well in their opinion

Do what you always do and mind the small details more. All you can do really

I did food delivery and mine rode with me a time or two. It was usually for a review. It was nice to have the help.

One thing I remembered but forgot to say- another manager did my route when I was sick a few weeks ago, so I’m not sure why they don’t base the route time off him

    unless it’s for another reason

You're panicing driver. Calm down. That panic will get you into trouble. Just go with the flow. Do the route the way you usually do, and go from there. I doubt they fire you for being slow. May provide feedback. Just relax and chat with him or her while you work.

Once you get away from the office, say "make sure your seatbelt's tight, I want to try something. I saw it in a cartoon but I'm pretty sure I can do it."

Ever watch a sleepy motorist or a drunk driver or a distract driver wallow from from line to line unable to maintain speed suddenly try to straighten up when a cop gets behind him? Overloads the brain super quick, nerves get frazzled, and he ends up driving worse, possibly even wiping out?

If good habits are not your default setting, trying to pretend for half a day is going to be lethal to the brain. I agree, you will do better if you just do your regular setting.

Stop as far away from any place the guy can get anything to eat.
Tell him if he is not in the truck when your ready to leave he best call a cab.

Pack an extra spam and egg sandwich for him. That way you can get suck-up points.

    p.s. Offer him an after-Spam & egg sandwich-smoke for extra suck-up points.
