For those of you who are required to attend monthly safety meetings, I'm curious how common video chats are becoming?

My current company used to require us to call a certain phone number at a certain time of day, etc but we have recently transitioned to video chatting. I'm NOT a fan of the video chat format. You end up with 50 or 60 drivers at various stages of their day. Some are driving, some are trying to get their bills signed, some are dropping/hooking trailers, and some are off-duty in their skivvies. At least with "just phone calls", others in the meeting wouldn't have to see any of that.

We dont do monthly safety meetings... We used to have to watch an assigned safety video every month. I would take a few hours before or after a run and knock out 6 months worth of videos ahead of time.

Now we have a monthly "Training" that is assigned... It is done online, takes 15 to 30 mins. Usually is a slide show with voice over, a few paragraphs of reading, maybe a short video, and then a quiz at the end. Most of these training sessions are material compiled by some outside safety organization, but there have been a few times where our safety guy has put together a YouTube video about a specific issue that has become problematic (ex. Improper use of PC, or When and How to use the Adverse Driving Exemption), at the very end of the video he would instruct us to call him for a brief oral quiz. These training sessions can be done anytime we want, preferably before the end of the month. If we fail to complete these training sessions the company can dock our monthly bonus by $50. On the first of each month a new assignment is given... Speaking of which I still need to do this month's "Training...

Video conferencing is getting more common. Also just videos of a certain topic are put online and required to be viewed within a certain time frame

We have had a few meetings in the past year and 1/2 I’ve worked here. Not always about safety though. One time someone #### all over the bathroom so that was the main topic once. The donuts are always terrible but there is orange juice and chocolate milk.

We did ours almost exactly like @Cattleman84 . Even with a small company it was hard to get everybody together at the same time in person and Zoom wouldn't have worked at all.
Our insurance company had a huge supply of videos to watch. Some of them were left over from the 60s and were almost funny.
Our safety record was surprisingly good for the kind of work we did so I didn't see any need to ride herd on the guys with anything strict or formal.

Lonesome, 88 Alpha and Cattleman84 Thank this.

My last company had a hard time getting people to show up for those meetings. Finally started having them at a local restaurant at 7am and made it mandatory. Company bought breakfast, anything on the menu, so that made it palatable. Lol.
