So I’m talking to a local yokel company about hiring on. It’s a flat bed outfit but they are wary about hiring a guy who has little to no flatbed experience.
Is there some kind of training I could pay for that would make getting on with a small flatbed fleet easier????
If not I’ll hunt for a tanker outfit

They not willing to have you ride along with one of their drivers for a week or two?

They kept talking about insurance costs. It doesn’t help they’re insured with a company I had private insurance with when I had an accident at 17.
His company wants 600$/mo to insure me.

edit for details: 17 we used my truck to lug around tools on the farm. My buddy set an open tray of sockets inside the tailgate and shut the tailgate, but not well enough.
So I pull out on the highway and sling sockets and half a tool box into on coming traffic (just one car) also a warning for an unsecured load.

No but he ran my info to see if he could hire me. It was not a yes or a no it was an “I’ll call you later in the week” I’m just trying to improve my chances if I don’t work here then atleast for somewhere else.
Insurance company is progressive and I guess they’re still upset

I watched The Western Express securement training video on YouTube.
I think I could muddle my way through flats if I needed to.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard the insurance thing. I guess progressive is pretty popular in my area with companies.
A local readymix plant offered me 16$/hr till the insurance approval came through pierce didn’t say how much but said it was high and tried to get me to work for 12$/hr instead. I said no thanks.

Is this a contractor thing or full company ride. Your location would help.

How many years ago was your accident ?

Have you pulled a 7 year or 10 years MVR?
    And pulled your DAC?

    most places need drivers bad.
If this place doesn’t want you, just move on to some place that does

Bean Jr. and slow.rider Thank this.
