He obviously forgot he was driving in the US. Actually, he doesn’t even know how to drive in the US I doubt.

Exactly why when my nephew said he wanted to be a driver, I advised him to find a driving job that couldn’t be done by immigrants, because they are going to take over trucking , since they will work for less than everyone else.

and he actually found a job with a company that does a lot of transport for the govt and isn’t allowed to hire anyone who wasn’t born in the US and has to pass an extensive background investigation that also includes investigating the driving credit and criminal records of their siblings, parents , and in-laws.
They figure The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, if your siblings or parents or spouses family had frequent run in’s with the law, then you would too.

he had 25 students in his CDL class at the local community college and only 3 were eligible to fill out the application , and the other 2 walked out when they saw the 200 page application and were told it would take 6-8 weeks for the results, and 9 or 10 months riding with a trainer at half pay before they assign you a truck.

He averages 80-90 cents a mile driving a company truck and is home every weekend.

I’m glad someone else was thinking this. The other driver was obviously in the wrong, but the OP was to stubborn to just back out of it and let the faster truck in front of him. He’s lucky the idiot didn’t drop a tire off in the ditch, over correct, and send them both into opposing traffic. The situation could have went from stupid to dead read quick.

I guess no one practices defensive driving anymore?

Thanks. There is also the potential financial implications. If the accident was just a little.bit worse, enough for a road service call, or OOS.
Now your looking at towing, load repower, no truck to make $ with. Enough to put a small owner op out of business. When I've run into those clusters, its a good time to find a pullout, have a whiz, do a walk around, and roll on. Accident free.

It's easy to second guess my actions since you weren't there, so I'll fill in the blanks for those of you who might not get it. As I said earlier, I was doing 55 and letting the truck in front of me merge into my lane since the right lane had ended. Pay close attention to that fact, THE LANE HAD ALREADY ENDED. The guy who was in back of me was attempting to pass on now what was a very narrow shoulder and I didn't see him over there until he was sitting next to me. He had run out of road and did a hard brake to back off. The entire situation happened in a couple seconds. He was doing 60+ and his right tires were already in the dirt because the shoulder was only 6 ft wide. He was out of options, and even if I had hit the brakes, I had oncoming traffic inches to my left that I might have slid into. If you look at the image below, you can see the 3 white arrows where the lane ends. Now if you go to the bottom right part of the pic where it says "Hwy 12" that's where I was when he decided to pass.

I don't play games with drivers who try to slip in front of me on an ending lane and always back off to give the jerk offs the right of way. This happened too fast, and I was left with no options.

Just today I was leaving TN and some jack wagon in a box truck about caused me to get pulled over.
Dumb pos cut into my lane as I was passing him. I swerved and my truck wiggled a little (paper rolls) blew on the air horn and moved back over.

I just wanted to do the speed limit, but won’t play with idiots. Here’s the real kicker he blew his horn at me and sped off like I was the A hole.

next week I’m buying a dash cam

That could have went bad in a hurry if he would have forced you over into the oncomming lane and another truck was coming.

I know you're as or more familiar with 63 than I am. Over a decade of running that highway regularly and I only ever had 1 close call. Defensive driving works.

Which still shows a lack of situational awareness on your part.

Seriously, he was able to get next to you, with dirt and debris flying everywhere, and you had no idea he was there until it was too late?

Think about that, hard, cause you could have easily been involved in a multiple fatality collision, yourself probably being one of the dead, because you weren't fully aware of your surroundings.

I fully agree that the guy was a jerk who shouldn’t be driving anything, much less a t/t. I also understand how it can happen, cause you don't expect people to be that stupid. Unfortunately though, they are that stupid, and more, and in droves.

But hopefully you will learn what you could have done better. Ask yourself how you allowed yourself to get into the situation.
