Lets not get too far into the weeds here. Thats a whole nother can of worms for a diffrent discussion. And to be clear i nither agree nor disagree with you, just not wanting to go that deep in the weeds right now.

That said i think its regional. I know here you can actully make almost as much off unemployment and foodstamps as you can working one of these jobs. So a lot of locals tend to not want to work. Afterall if you can get 75% of what someone else gets working 40 hours a week at $22 an hour while sitting on your ### then why bother working at all? As a result many local businsses have stupidly high wages I.E $22 an hour at mcdonalds or the gas station hireing at $30 for night crew but cant get enough help even durning after school hours.

On the flip side i know where im moving the exact reverse is true. Wages are very low because there are more people who want to work then there are jobs and welfare is much lower. As a result the local busnisses pay as little as they can get away with because if someone quits they will have a new employee tomorrow. Also doesnt help many local places wont hire college kids. They prefer high school grads they train themselves which also keeps wages lower. Though to be fair the guys they train arent as deep in debt so need less money to live equally well as a college grad.

I prefer MREs or freeze dried. Mres are about $7 a meal and if i use a few long self life fresh ingredients i can use my camp stove to get my meal cost in the truck to around $3.5-4 a meal.

Are you getting MREs through one of those online survival/prepped sites or are there brick and mortar places as well?
    Thanks for any info

I know you don't want to "get in the weeds", but when you say $22/hr "still can't can't attract any of these kids to work", it reads as if you think "kids are lazy these days", not "$22 an hour still won't pay rent". 'Living on welfare' isn't much of a life, and will barely cover day to day expenses. So if welfare is paying more than work, the problem isn't welfare, it's that working doesn't pay enough to survive.

Actually the problem is definitely welfare. A system meant to assist people get on their feet is instead allowing bums to sit around and cry. If bleeding hearts would have put a minimum wage job requirement / trade learning program in place rather than free money system everyone would have benefited.

Ill send you a PM with a few links in a bit. But its a mix of places. Military surplus ones are a bit harder to find while civvy ones are almost as good and are much easier to get.

To be fair its not just kids being lazy. $22 will pay rent in many areas even here if you dont do something crazy like buy a brand new car or eat out every day. 2 guys shareing a 2 bedroom can pay as little as $450 a month $550 with ulititys including internet in many decent apartments. Just if you get 75% of that from welfare and can still goof off at home all day, why bother to work?

Average rent in my area is $750-900 a month with utilitys. Im in a nicer gated apartment complex so i pay around $1200 though that was because me and an ex split the place before she became an ex and ive just been too lazy to move. $22x40 a week would still give you around 45k a year and even at 25% overall tax thats plenty to live pretty decently off of. Same if you get 75% of that in welfare. 3 of my neghbours have been on welfare for the whole 3 years i have lived at my complex and order out 2 or 3 times a week and are entirely avle bodied. Hell they brag about living off welfare and how stupid i am for working constantly.

But again its regional. Some areas like NYC $22 an hour is poverty level. Others like KC its a great wage.
