My experience has been that, with it connected to the app on my phone, no hotspot needed. Then again, I only rarely run my Garmin, as I run the same route most days.

    Silverdriver Thanks this.

That is correct. Which is why I have a separate unlimited data account for my Ipad. Has its own SIM card and I dont mess with the hotspot.
I also run the sirius xm and pandora apps on it while Im working too.

    Silverdriver Thanks this.

I’ve heard of it. It’s actually part of TTR I think and is supposed to be ad based I think.

    Silverdriver Thanks this.

Ya, mine keeps thinking it doesn’t have battery and shuts off. Then when it powers up it has full battery.

oh, it finally woke up yesterday. but ya, I need to get a plan to replace it for sure. Glad my copilot was working good for backup. But it’s just routing and directions. Doesn’t help finding stops along the way. But a good backup.

GPS calculations will be on device and not cellular… if your maps are on device too (like copilot) then no data should be used there either. If your maps are not downloadable then it might use some data as it pulls down your mapping information.

I liked copilot for that reason … all maps are downloads so even if I don’t have service my copilot will work.

if I’m doubt, just turn off the cellular radio and see what works and what doesn’t.

Co Pilot has live traffic option so that should be using some cell service I would think.

I also use Waze and the occasional google maps.

    MidWest_MacDaddy and Silverdriver Thank this.

    Thanks everyone for the information.
I’m a hillbilly in this new technology that keeps coming out and changing every year.
I remember the days of playing Atari and Pac-Man... My son invited me to play with him X-Box ... A military game of some kind and after 5 minutes quit! Way to many buttons on the control.. push this.. hold this and move the lever and etc, etc. I ended up always getting killed fast.
Thanks again and be safe everyone!

In 5 years we will have totally different problems… like satellite uplink and inter earth directional guidance or Inter global directional guidance….. or something else ….. I’m just along for the ride…..
You’ll still need to pay attention to the road signs around Newark Airport to find the south side cargo areas…..

    MidWest_MacDaddy and dwells40 Thank this.
