in my case the driver gets what he wants to do the job. In the truck is already a nav unit and cb that work. The mattress is also replaced with every new driver because to expect someone to sleep on a used one when I wouldn’t is not right.

I have a little form the driver fills out on line, and what they want is sitting waiting for them at either location. if he/she needs something on the road, say ‘house hold supplies’ to maintain a clean interior, they can buy it, send the receipt in and get their money back.

as for your case, communication is the key, if the boss says buy anything, I would ask if I could get new tires on my car and tell him that’s a broad statement so please define what you mean.

 

If they tried to send me out with a credit card in that situation I would have turned it down. "No thanks, I still have what I need from my previous job."

 

I would only use the card for purchases associated to do doing the job or for unexpected emergencies. For example - if you need to buy a load bar or strap to secure a load. Even then I would not do so until I got authorization to use it. I would not buy items like a CB, GPS unless I had written authorization with a signature.

 

I didn’t buy anything for the inside but we could buy stuff for the outside without any issue because he wanted his trucks to look nice. Or the odd time we got stuck out over the weekend we could get hotel rooms or pay to have the truck polished, stuff like that. There weren’t many rules to the card but it seemed most of us respected him enough to not abuse it.

 

The only time I ever had a company CC was when doing recovery (repo). There were times when I needed something and it was easier for me to have the card. Otherwise, I paid for it and scanned in my receipts, and got reimbursed.
